HKS type 1 turbo timer problem.

Picked one of these up a couple of days ago for my ralliart an it is aggravating the hell out of me. I got the harness MT-6(our ignitions are the same) plugged it all up,spliced the wires to the tach sig wire, parking brake an speed sensor. The unit comes on fine, reads revs but not the speed.(trying to pinpoint the right wire). Well the timer itself does not work. When i turn off the car it turns off as well. I first tried grounding the unit then i spliced the parking brake. No dice. I would figure that the speed wire would have nothing to do with the main function of the unit. Ive searched through numerous threads an found no answers.
Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

Did you verify that you have the right e-brake wire? Have you tried seeing if it keeps running with the e-brake down? Maybe the signal is reversed on your specific switch or you have the wrong wire. I don't think the speed signal has any effect on the timer part of the unit.

Yea i sure i got the right wire. There is only one wire that connects to a clip.

Just to verify, put a test light on it and make sure you're getting the right signal when the brake is up. The HKS install instructions should tell you what you're looking for in regard to that. Did you test it with the brake down?

I tried it with the brake down. No go. Ill put a light on the parking brake when i get a chance to see. I have to think that its what is not working. My first thoughts was that or the constant power but the unit keeps memory so its obviously getting power when its shut off. Thanks for the advice

Well, it's it's not working with the brake up or down, it's likely not a signal issue with the brake itself. What kind of connectors are you using? Another thing to check is to put a light on the e-brake signal wire going to the HKS unit itself and make sure the brake signal is getting there correctly.

My guess is that its not a "signal" per se. From what ive read around other resources it just needs to be grounded. Just like how a in dash DVD player needs to be hooked to the brake line. When i first did the initial install it started getting dark and i had most of it hooked up except for the brake line. For a test run i touched the brake wire to the neg terminal of the battery just to see if it would work an it didn't. I would like to use the brake line for safety reasons. I need to get an ohlm meter on it to see if its grounded. I dont know if this thing is just so picky that it has to have ALL of the wires connected to work or not. I used the supplied vampire clips on the tach, speed an brake. I took out the one on the brake an replaced it with another just to be sure. I wouldn't think that the speed sensor would have anything to do with the primary function of the unit but ive seen weirder things....
