E85 Question

Man I know I am going to get wasted for this question but trust me fellas before you burn me i did search for almost one hour and could not find a direct answer on what is needed for my setup. a basic run down of my car is

Motor:
Evo 9
2.4L 9:1 cr Fully Built
Super tech valve train
Cosworth 272/272 cams
Br Intake maifold (the factory upgrade)
Br 65mm tb
Pte 1000cc injectors
Br deluxe fmic
RSR 3inch tb exhaust
gt 4088 turbo
twin scroll manifold
aem engine mangement
walbro 255 intank
Factory fuel rail

I told the local shop that i wanted to switch to e85 now that i have it in my area the gave me a bill of over 2400 dollars . Now this was including fuel rail, intank double pumer, all the fancy fuel lines and fittings, fuel pressure regulator, labor and tuning is included in that price. I just wanted to know the rundown of the bare things needed to go e85 with that setup, and does it acutally cost this much, any help will be greatly helpful in this matter.

You only need the bigger injectors and the double pumper, AWD is building mine right now and I will be running E85 and I dont have special lines, rail or regulator...

Im going to be running the Buschur double pumper, FIC 2150's to run the E85, stock rail, no regulator... built, bigger turbby and bolt ons etc...

They are ripping you off bro, FIC's $790, Double pumper $500, $ for tune depends on who you use...

I'm switching to E-85 and I'll i'm changing is my injectors. I'll add a double pumper when the new turbo goes in. Fuel rail, FRP, fittings aren't necessary. For your setup Injectors, prob 2150's and a double pumper will suffice to get you the most out of your setup. They are trying to rip you off whoever it is.

Like dude above said....bigger injectors, double pumper, maybe stainless steel lines....

Shouldnt be anywhere near 2400 bucks...

LOL, AMS sells a kit that can run E85 for like 1500 for HUGE hp cars, and these guys want 2400 thats laughable!!

^^ he is right about not having to even go witht he injectors but if you want to get it done and out of the way so you dont have to retune when you buy the injectors then just knock it out.

What injectors did they quote you at? With the 40r and 2.4L, you will be needing some big boy injectors in the neighborhood of ID2000's, which run about $1000. That plus a Double pumper ($500), and Fuel rail ($175) puts you at ~$1700 then figure in labor (~$150 for 2hrs) and a custom tune (~$400-$500) brings the total to about $2250. You do not need to upgrade any of your stock fuel lines but you might need an adjustable regulator since your setup will no doubt be quite demanding on fuel. Depending on whether you go with a higher fuel pressure may then dictate whether or not you need upgraded lines as well but speaking just for the stock lines compatablilty with E85, there are no known issues.

So depending on the particular parts that the shop quoted you at and seeing that you said that the labor and tune was included in the price, I could see the possibility for $2400...

As stated above, you don't need all of that listed above. All I needed to do to switch to E-85 was the double pumper and bigger injectors. I am still on the stock rail, lines, regulator, etc and am pushing over 500/510. Granted, the idle is a little bit lopey at a stand still (IT NEVER STALLS OR ISN'T TERRIBLE AT ALL, but it is noticeable) because I stayed on the stock FPR. If I wanted to clean that up I could order one, but the grumble of the car is sort of growing on me.

Either the shop you took it to is trying to get every dollar possible out of you, or they haven't done many E-85 swaps because if they had they would have known that half of what they quoted is unnecessary.

If you do go with huge injectors, get the ID2000's. They are amazing to tune with and idle like a champ on 93 octane. Its like the stock setup injectors at idle, but when you crank the fuel pressure up you have the ability to flow 2100cc+ of fuel. They are pricey, but well worth it if you are switching to E-85 and going with a dual tune setup.

The last injectors you will ever need, for sure.

Btw....you should get a bigger set of cams while you have your car being worked on. A more agressive cam such as the Kelford 280's would mak a lot more power with your setup.

seems about right for what you got. the thing is, not all of it is necessary depending on how much power you want in the future. also tuning cost a lot because you are getting a whole new tune. remember there is labor fees unless you installed it by yourself

Do you mind posting the breakdown of the bill? Or you can PM me with it and I can tell you what you do/don't need. One thing that people need to remember though is that the OP has a big 40r turbo, not a 35r or FP based stock frame turbo, and as such will put a vastly greater strain on the fuel system.
