N00b question - how to tell if an evo 7 is real!?
Hi everyone,
I'm new around here and am currently looking at purchasing an evo 7.
My main concern is not knowing the tell tale signs of a replica. I dont want to go buying a lancer which has just had fancy badges, a body kit or an engine transplant!
Apart from the body kit, engine, brembos and badges in the dash, is there anything else that i should look for that would make it obvious that its just a replica? apart from the all wheel drive?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks!

coco,
your best bet is probably to get the VIN number and do a check.
Next thing I would check for but not a 100% guarantee its an evo is the drive train.
look for rear diff, transfer case, etc. Lancers are not AWD and its pretty expensive to do a FW to AWD conversion. (basically, its not worth it to convert so that can be a ruling factor)
hope this helps a bit. .

Hello everyone, thanks so much for your replies - really appreciate your advice.
With my previous cars (all have been skylines!), I used to run the vin's through the nissan FAST system to confirm the colour, make - etc. When you guys say check the vin, is there just a particular vin convention that i should be looking for or do you mean there is a system similar to FAST that i can run the vin through?
Also, does anyone happen to have a picture of the rear diff / transfer case in comparison to a standard lancer one. Thats a great point!
Thanks again all.

Hello again,
I just did a quick search on the site and found a link to this one - http://www.motoverse.com
Is this what we were referring to for the check? Please let me know.
Thank you!

to see if it's real, first make sure you're fully awake, and not dreaming. easiest way to do this is to look for Leonardo Dicaprio. If he's anywhere near you, especially trying to talk you into something you don't really want to do (like drive an STi), then you're dreaming. Shoot him, or jump in front of a bus. This should wake you up.
Now, on to the EVO. Walk up to it. Touch it. Once you've got a good feel for it's position in time/space, lean on it. If it holds up your body weight, and you don't fall through it, then chances are good that it is indeed real.
hope this helps, good luck

Yuor talking about an EVO VII... If you cant tell the difference between an evo vii, na evo viii, or a lancer.. than you need not buy it. There is no mistaking an evo over a lancer. Also, anybody that converted a vii from right hand drive to left hand drive would be an idiot so if the steering wheel is on the right, good chance it is a vii since nobody imported righ thand drive 8's. I can understand someone mistaking a vii for an viii but never an lancer for an evo.. even after being extremely modded. I have owned both and by far love the vii better than the viii but now that they brought acd and ayd over to the states.. an evo ix is great.
