Fair comparison between the viii turbo and ix turbo

I figured i would post this here. If the mods decide to move.. So be it. I apologize!!!

Ok.. So i have a 2004 evo viii rs. It is currently in the bodyshop due to an accident ad they said that "flapper for the internal wg" was damaged. I should look into a new turbo. I have been reading much on the differences between the evo viii turbo and the ix turbo. Now i cant find the answers i seek!!! I been searching for dyno graphs comparing the two.. Or infor supporting peoples "gains" by going to the ix turbo etc.

Now here is the question...

If there a good enough difference to maybe "upgrade" to the ix turbo? If anyone can show dyno sheets to support their answer... Or even let me know what they made on the viii turbo and then what they made if they upgraded to the ix turbo.

Any info will be appreciated! Thank you

Depending on money, why not upgrade to fp green? You know there is a power difference there. My view is, when something breaks, time for upgrade.

Get atleast a Green Turbo. The IX makes more power then the VIII for sure though but just get a FP model, any of the three are fine.

Whats the hype with the fp turbos? Ok... Im not originally an evo guy. I have a t67 h.o. P trim sitting... And i was going to use it for my civic turbo build. My buddy at the shop said to use that turbo on the evo and put something a bit smaller on the civic.

My thing is... What do i as far as putting what turbo on?

Many threads covering the comparison for the two turbos. If you have the money just buy the IX turbo. It will give you more hp mid -top.

The cheap way would be for you to just a buy a used 10.5 hotside for $100 -150 vs $400+ for the IX turbo. You need to upgrade the j-pipe, wastegate for the ix turbo swap

Sorry to say I would upgrade to a BBK and not just a IX turbo.

With the BBK or FP's you can use the stock manifold and downpipe, I think that's why people are recommending them.

Bang for buck the evo9 turbo upgrade is awesome. I switched from a 03 evo8 turbo to an evo9 turbo and don't regret it at all. On the 03 evo8 turbo with basic mods( intake, tbe, hiflow cat) i made 265whp with custom tune. I then installed the evo9 turbo(ported hotside and exh manifold) and made 286whp running slightly less boost up top because i was maxing out the stock injectors. Gains all throughout the powerband and as much as +28whp increase in the midrange with no loss in spool. I actually felt the spool was slightly better with the evo9. if you had $1700 to spare by all means get a cbrd bbk or fp red etc but if you're budget only allows you about $500-600, cant beat the evo9 turbo upgrade.
