Searching 4 Differences between VIII and IX
Searching 4 Differences between VIII and IX
I have been running a bunch of different searches on here to try and find out he differences between the VIII and the IX, basically the 05' and 06' USDM Evo's
Can anyone help a newbie or at least let me know what to enter in a search in order to find this info?
I have read the turbo thread and I know they have different turbos, and I read all about the GSR vs MR thread, but I can't find any info on the 8 and 9 differences, am I the last guy on the planet that doesn't know?
Thanks in advance

Well, I don't know how you couldn't find such a commonly-discussed thing, but it's pretty basic:
- MIVEC
- Improved turbo
- Coolant passages in the head
- ECU
- Different style, slightly lighter Enkei rims on the RS and GSR
Then there's the IX SE, which is a completely different ball of wax.

-evo 9 has a larger compressor cover on the turbo
-revised cooling passages in the block allowing for a higher knock threshold and more boost on pump gas
-mivec intake cam
these are a few of the differences off the top of my head.

IX has:
MIVEC
Impoved head design for cooling
camshafts are hollow
wheels
interier, mainly seats
gearing, IX first is longer, VIII fourth is longer
edit: man, 2 posts got here already before I finished typing this

Thanks guys,
I swear I did searches like "VIII vs IX" "VIII and IX differences" 05' and 06 differences "changes in the IV" I did allot of different searches and came up with nothing.
Anything else anyone can think of?

Hollow cams would have the same affect as shaving weight from anything else that is rotating, your flywheel, your wheels and tires anything that spins will spin easier and faster the lighter it is.
I will never forget back in the day when I took the stock steel rally wheels off my 69 Chevelle and put on some aluminum Weld racing rims, WOW Huge difference!
But remember most guys swap out cams for aftermarkets and then those fancy hollow cams just end up sitting on the shelf in the corner of your garage, and the lighter weight may make them less of a useful self defense weapon!

The IX also has a hollowed-out cf portion of the wing...sorry for splitting hairs. Visually the front end is different. The upper portion of the grill is open, and the lower portion was revised as well. Both the viii and the ix should have gotten the JDM rear...they are hot, but our government wanted a bigger bumper. Big booties FTL.

Yes EVO 8's have hollow cams. 8's also have a full CF wing (the horizontal beam and te sides)
Evo 9 wing sides are plastic and as mentioned before the CF part is hollow and flimsy

Only the 03's had the IC sprayer. 03s HID's were standard as well, im not sure if they were standard in 04. In 05 HIDs only came on the MR model and if you bought the SSL (sun, sound, leather) option. On the 9's, HIDs were also only the MR or if you got the SSL model or the SE edition.
