Is open diff in 03 bad in snow?

I was told tonight from a friend that my 03 with a open diff in the front will be
worthless in the snow.

Is this a true statement? I mean its awd so it should still perform well right......

Its AWD it'll handle just fine, as long as you know how to drive in the snow.

I agree, Many Subies are open difs in the front and they are some of the best Snow vehicles you can buy. The Evo 8 open front dif shouldn't play a major factor in the snow. Smart Driving will. The AWD will pull you through.

I had my WRX for about 4 winters with an open diff, kinda sucked with crappy all season tires but once I put the snow tires on it nothing could stop it.

Your friend doesn't know what the **** he's talking about. If he gives you investment advice, do the exact opposite and you will do well.

You still have a center viscous and rear clutch diff. The viscous is slow to react but with the amount of slip on snow you'd get it'll work great.

DSMs and Subys (non STI) have a viscous rear diff too (option in the DSM though) and they still work amazing compared to 2wd.
