Cold Weather Idle Issues

Hi,

I got my EVO a couple weeks ago and love it! Just wondering if there are any known issues with the cold weather and idle. My tach tends to jump up to 2k and back down but it seems like it only does it when the engine is warming up. Also pushing the clutch in seems to calm the idle a bit but it still stays a bit above where I think it should be. Is it worth changing the PCV? I've searched on here but I didnt see any threads that were asking the same thing I was.

sounds like what my car does every time i turn it on. jumps up to about 1.5-2k and always slowly falls down to 900-1k (dep on where ur idle is set) within a minute or 2. As long as ur idle is around 1k or so once the car starts to warm up...sounds normal. is the car completely stock? don't suppose the car has a wideband installed? rich idle usually points to a vac leak

Normal for the 2K at very cold start. As long as it doesn't jump up and down.

My car takes about 10 minutes to warm up at 20 degrees outside.

after my VIII was tuned it did that but the tuner told me that it would, and it didn't go above 2K, and then once she was warm didn't idle above 1K. so if it goes back to normal and holds steady I would say it would be just fine.

OP what do you mean by jumps up to 2k and comes down? i thought you meant it goes up and comes down and goes up and comes down and repeats till it's warm, that to me would possibly be a vac leak. but if you are starting it and it goes to 2k then comes down slowly i agree with everyone, thats just warming up.

Yes, This is the case. It goes up and then slowly comes down when warmed up. I'll just continue to give it a few minutes to warm up. Thanks everyone!

The best way to fix that is do a SD tune and that will go away.
A friend of mine just did the SD tune from English Racing and he said its one the best mods he's done.
I'm also planning on doing that soon.

This sounds normal to me, almost all cars idle high in the first few minutes in cold weather. As long as it stays around 1 there should not be any problems. If it goes up and down over and over than you may just have a leak.
