09 08 RRM SRI intake problems

Has there been any issues with the 09 SRI RRM and cold weather starts? I had to remove mine because the engine would not hold a steady idle and sometimes would stall out during cold starts. I live in North Carolina and the weather has been cold lateley , in the teens in the mornings and evenings. Put factory box back on and all is OK. ANy ideas

for the 09 gts the only intake that works with no problems is the injen cai.

It's probably so used to sucking in hot air that it's confused when cold air hits it! jks. But seriously I have no idea, when I had a SRI before my CAI I never experienced that even in cold weather.

I had the RRM SRI but I took it off and sold it last year right before it started getting cold. What are the temps like that you describe as "cold" when you're having problems? Cold for us northerners is different.

The only explanation I can think of is some kind of MAF issue, maybe you didn't have everything mounted correctly? This is the first I've seen of any issues with the RRM SRI.

Oh, and this may or may not be related, but when I brought my car in for the air bag TSB, they also said there was an ECU reflash that fixed starting issues. There was an incorrect parameter in the ECU that was not allowing enough airflow through the throttle body, under certain conditions, that was causing no-start issues. Which in fact I was having, however my car is stock, but since they did the update/reflash it's been fine. However I imagine this may only be an 08 Issue, but you never know.

when i had mine on it would just idle extremely high, not just in cold but mostly when it got cold..took it off and threw it in the trash. all it did was make noise anyway haha.

id highly recommend to invest in the injen CAI

If you have a 2.4 GTS I would avoid RRM intake at all cost. I had mine and sold it after a week. the car bogged down a lot and would not accelerate and the noise it makes when doing 20 mph is unbearable. I would try the other intake brand.

I think RRM is over priced. However, that's my opinion. I bought instead the FUJITA short ram intake. I have had it for 4 months now and there has been no problem with cold starts. I have my lancer gts 2.4L in Mexico city in which it was around 4 degrees Celsius in the morning...everything was fine...I did let the engine heat though...it was too cold. It sounds amazing! I have videos on youtube. search for Heevindinho. I have a couple in there...
if you have any questions hit me up on email~

i dont think its a thought its more like a fact. go on their site and look at the insane markups on their products. they sell the TIEN springs for like 300 something and i got mine for 199 shipped. check out the LEDs and see how much u can find them shipped. the prices they charge for fake CF is ridiculous. i would never buy anything from them that i could get from somewhere else. the only thing im considering getting from them is the header, because no one else makes it so i guess ill just have to get raped paying 300 bucks for a header.

The "magic" number for the rrm intake to not work well is definitely 16 degrees f. Twice my car threw engine codes and would stall out with the worst rpm jumping I've ever seen in a car: can't go in reverse, it will stall, forwards is limited to like 5mph, and that is very rough. The car runs like its only getting fuel in bursts, its hard to explain. I found out that if its 16 or below you need to let the car heat up and let the rpm drop to 1000 or lower (initial startup they are at 2000), and this takes a good 5-10 minutes. If you don't do this, be prepared to reset the ecu. I told rrm this and a summary of their response is that they never get those temps in Cali. I said it before and am saying it again, I'm getting another car when financially possible with more power, and will probably go back to American.

Thanks for everyones responses. It sure is funny when I contacted RRM they said they had never heard any complaints or problems with the intake. They said I must have installed it wrong. Ok how could you possible install it wrong?

It is just like you said o8gglancer I am having the same problem

i have the RRM SRI for the '09 and i live in MD so its a little colder than that usually in the morning most the time but i just let it sit for a min and the only problem i have is sometimes i dont let it sit and it has acceleration problems for like 5 secs but there is a thread about that in the Trouble shooting section here and other people are having the same problem with stock and other SRI/CAI.

I've had the RRM SRI V2.0 on for about 2 years now. Gone through to winters and havn't had any problems with it. The coldest i've seen it in the mornings when i start my car is around -23C (-10F). There is a TSB on cold starts, which has either a relay fix or the reflash mentioned earlier. If your car is bucking, you either can't drive stick, or your transmission/clutch has problems. Either way, none of those sound like symptoms from an intake.
