Grinding noise on cold start!

Hey guys, i have a quick question. My IX has almost 32k on the clock. Super recently (within 100 miles ago) it started making a cringe inspiring grindinh noise coming from the engine bay on cold start up. It only lasts about 30 seconds before i dissapears. I did some research, and there seems to be a common issue with the timing belt assemblies and contact with the crankshaft blades. However all the complaints i've read about have consistently complained that the noise occurs all the time at startup AND idle. I havent detected any issues with idle and the engine bay will return to normal within 30 sec to a minute, instead of the common 10-30 min.

Is this the same timing belt assembly issue? Could it be transmission related, or am I just **** out of luck and will have to dump alot of money for a dealership or gst repair?

**** EDIT

Okay so the noise only occurs when I turn my HVAC fan on, and the sound seems to be coming from the radiator/coolant reservoir area. My coolant is a little low, does this have anything to do with it?

You can start by checking the engine when is making the noise ...........so you got 30 seconds to do that lol ,

Check the engine and detect where in the engine do you hear it the loudest

I figured out where the noise is coming from! Its only when I have the fan turned on. Any ideas on the cause of this?

To start, make sure the car is off and cold, then turn the fan manually by hand to see if it's hitting anything.

Oops, forgot to mention that it happens on cold start and when its warm. However, it doesn't make a peep when the car is not on.

Probably coming from the accessory belt or one of the pulleys driven by the accessory belt. I would check the alternator bearings, and any tensioner pulleys. When you start your car the alternator runs at high output to rapidly recharge the battery. When you turn on your HVAC, more current is drawn from your alternator, which makes sense as to why the noise occurs at these times.

Just my thoughts, I had a similar problem with my 240.

i have an evo x SST 2011 that made 9000Km...i just noticed a noise from the engine at the opposite side of the timing belt (sounds like loose metal parts)...tried many things like increasing the RPM but it didnt go away....it only went away after i engaged the gear...the noise comes only on P...is this something normal related to the gear / engine engagment??

appreciate your experience guys.

When you say "HVAC fan" do you mean the cockpit fan (like the 0/1/2/3/4 fan?) or what? Is it only when the AC is on, or only when the fan is on?

dmezher... you may want to post in the Evo X forum since this is the 1-9 forum and the cars are completely different.
