start up question - check engine light supposed to come on?

I have a 2004 GSR. When you guys turn the key to start the car, does the CEL turn on for a brief moment before starting?

When u start ur car it should come on for a quick second then turn off. It's normal.

Are you serious? Logically doesn't make any sense but i'm desperate enough to try. Which o2? front or back?

Thanks. I think I have an issue with my car, my CEL doesn't turn on when turning the key.

Could be the bulb behind it, Idk.

all the lights should be on including oil pressure and CEL/SES with the engine NOT running and ignition ON.

do all your other lights come on or is it just the ses light that doesn't come on?
You can check the ses light by disconnecting like your maf plug for a brief moment...that should trigger the ses light.

sounds like your bulb is out. it's amazing what people actually need to start threads about these days.

also, your car is NOT a GSR. there are no 8 or 9 GSR's in the US.

all the lights come on except for the CEL. I'll try the maf trick and see if triggers from there.

You need to calm down. I just tried to specify the model just so there isn't any kind of confusion. It's amazing what people on forums post on threads these days.

What would this have to do with anything? He isn't saying it's coming on, he is asking if it's supposed to come on. Completely useless post.

When you turn the key ON engine OFF the check engine light and others should light up. This is a ECU bulb check. If yours is out its possible its a bulb or if the car is modded and you bought it used good chance the last owner removed it before the sale.

I just checked with my obd-2 reader and was able to get a soft code for p0335 (crank position sensor).

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question. I suppose I need to replace my bulb as well as the CPS.
