Door not unlocking???

Ok so first I'll give you some context.

I drive a 2004 Evo 8 SSL with just under 94k on the car. Car is completely stock at this point besides an Evo 9 DV, but I don't think that single mod has anything to do with my issue.

Just tonight I realized my rear driver's-side door will not open if I use the keyless entry to unlock the car. As far as I'm aware the other 3 doors open if I use the keyless entry but not the driver's-side rear door. If I use the power unlock button from the driver's-side door panel it still will not unlock/open. I did find out that if I manually unlocked the door from the inside (rear driver's side) I was able to open it from the outside.

It was really late tonight when I discovered the problem so I was not able to conduct many tests on what could be the problem, however, I am pretty sure that door worked correctly a few days ago (although I am not positive about this), I suppose it could have already been unlocked when I was opening it from the outside.

Has anyone experienced a problem like this before where one door's locking mechanism seemed to fail or not respond correctly? What could be some possible causes? The only thing I could think of this late in the night was bad wiring.

Also, in case it matters although it probably does not, the average temp here over the past few days has been somewhere between 30F and 40F (that is cold where I live). At first I thought it was frozen shut, but it opened with ease when I unlocked it from the inside.

Thank you for any input.

Well after work today I unlocked my car with my remote and tried the problem-door and it opened. I double checked with the remote and it is working correctly again. It is also working correctly with the lock/unlock buttons inside the car now. Hopefully it keeps working correctly.

Definitely sounds like the door lock actuator could be going bad. I'd take the paneling off and check to make sure everything is moving smoothly in there and apply some grease where necessary.

That happened to mine a while back. The door lock actuator was the culprit.

Thanks. How much was it to replace the actuator? My door still locks/unlocks correctly but in case it starts happening again now I'll know what to do.

About 200 bucks. Mine would come and go. It would be better in the winter than the summers. In the summer, everytime I would lock the doors the drivers door lock would move just a bit so I knew all the wiring was good but come cooler weather it worked like a charm again.

Interesting. I'll keep that in mind for when it comes time to replace it.
