4 years went by fine... Now it's a prob?

I've had my EVO for 4 years with the same aftermarket exhaust without any problem from the friendly NJ police. Within the past two days I've been pulled over 3 times for a "loud exhaust"! I have a home in FL so I chose to register it there. (FL plates = no inspection ) so they didn't give me any tickets.

On to my question... I have no idea what kind of exhaust is on the car now (I bought the car with it installed.) Is there an aftermarket exhaust with great performance that is not "that loud"?

Any help is greatly appreciated
Thank you

Check under your car and look for a resonator. My exhaust isn't all that loud but it has a very deep tone to it.

If you're exhaust is more like a straight pipe (most are), then it will be VERY loud. I have a very good muffler on mine to help keep the noise down but also not restrict it. I have a test pipe in there also with a downpipe (downpipe won't make it louder at all).

they may have had a change in the noise ordinance or just several complaints causing them to start going after people with loud cars. You can get silencers, but they seem very restrictive to me. Id just look up some sound clips on youtube for an idea

As you and anyone who lives or has lived in NJ as I used to myself this is one thing that they LOVE to pull people over for. If I were you I simply wouldnt care since its registered in Florida and we dont have inspection or emission testing, tell 'em to go and pound salt cause they cant touch you and if they are stupid enough to cut a ticket just to **** you off and make you go through the motions proving you have it registered in FL then they are just being typical NJ D-Bag cops...

Tanabe medalion touring is what I have..very quiet. 93db. every state /county in the country is trying to raise money---thx to govt spending. So you get pulled over more --to raise that money. Same hear in Tx, 15 yrs no front plate and its been required. I get pulled over once--then 6 times in 6 mos, same car same eveything--just a focus on no plates and the need to raise money.

if your really sick of getting pulled over then you can always go the route of getting a QTP dp with the cutout and put the stock catback back on. either way i feel like whatever exhaust you buy these NJ pigs are just gonna pull you over. now there just looking at the exhaust tip, "if its too big then it must be too loud".

i got pulled over with my stock exhaust! they said it was too loud. i told the officer its still completely stock. he kept arguing with me. so then i told him my NEW exhaust was in the mail and if he gave me a ticket for that BS then he would find my stock exhaust layin in his driveway one morning...then he let me go lol

Wrong! they can touch you. Regardless of where your car is registered, you need to conform to whatever laws the state in which your driving in has in place. If you take it to court the judge is going to ask you one question if you decide to use the "its registered in another state where its legal" defense. That one question is going to be, "are we in that state?".
I would look into a silencer or a put the stock cat back on and get a catback exhaust. I have the hks carbon ti and its slightly louder than stock at cruising speeds but comes alive at WOT.

I leave my car registered to my PA address. No emissions inspection, tint laws are different. Have had cops pull behind me purposely then turn off.

Have actually have been pulled over for tint and ticketed claiming I was "Driving In His Municipality". Went directly to station and they dismissed the ticket without question

I don't know about that. My friends camaro is registered in FL and he has 5% tint all the way around including a big strip on the top and bottom of his windshield and in good old northern michigan where the state police have nothing better to do they love to hand out tint tickets but he has had cops turn around and follow him and as soon as they see its a florida plate they don't even bother and he also has a ridiculously loud exhaust and never gets bothered or that. I on the other hand got a ticket for tint and loud exhaust which my tint is lighter and exhaust isnt loud compared to his.

Just be nice to them. They might be pulling you over, just because they can, for a loud exhaust only to see if they can pop you for something else (drinking and driving, warrants, expired insurance, etc.). If you're cool, they might realize that you're an okay dude and leave you alone. If you're a d**k, they might continue to pull you over and get lucky.
Be cool, it just might pay off.

Register in FL! My Evo is and I'm in Cali right now. I got a Greddy TBE without the silencer and Cali cops roll behind me all the time, then they look at my plates and go the other way.

By law no matter where your car is registered at you have to obey the law of that state you are at.

My HKS exhaust is pretty quiet compared to most evos i hear. It would be even more quiet with out a test pipe.
