Cold Start Issues

Ok, so I did a quick search but not alot of good input so I figured I'd post something new up. So I get a call about an hour ago from my wife that she left the IX outside and the temp dropped to about 20. She then went to start it and it wouldnt turn over. She then tried blipping the throttle and it started then died. She gave it about fifteen minutes and did the same thing. This time it started and she let it run for a while before turning it off. It seems that this is a somewhat common problem, but I was wandering if anyone had good input on a way to fix the cold starting issues.

BTW my mods are cai, catback, bov, fuel rail, sparkplugs and wires. I think thats all, but I did buy used so it may have other things I dont know about. Not sure if this matters but I figured I would put it on here.

she let me listen on the phone, it sounded pretty rough, spark plugs were just changed out by the dealer I bought it from. Im sure it needs a tune. I have one scheduled for Wed. The roughness died out at idle after a few sec, but she did say it was kicking a bit of smoke from the exhaust and smelled rich.

i had a similar problem, my tune was to rich at idle, it was flooding the spark plugs, see if they look wet and smell like fuel.

if it starts up every time, sometimes cars do weird things sometimes

If the car has been tuned I would definitely get it checked over by your tuner. A lot of times this happens when the injectors are not set right for the high idle when the car is cold.

Were the spark plugs gap correctly? My brother in-law had a similar issue, because he didn't gap his plugs correctly.

Ok so a little update. Car was sitting in the garage all night and when my wife went to work this morning it started up perfectly and ran fine. She parked the car outside her work for about 3 hours and the temp dove to -5. She went to start the car and again it started for a second then died. She tried three or four times to no avail. She then gave it five min and tried again. This time it started up and kicked a bunch of black smoke and smelled really rich again for about 45seconds. The car drove home fine, but its really starting to **** me off because she is transporting my 8month old daughter around. Im going to take it to a tuner on Wed and hope they can fix it, but other than that Im baffled.

I would check your plugs again, plug wires and even the starter for good measure. Is it possible to park indoors or in a warm place at all because the cold seems to put a beating on Evo's outdoors when left parked.

ill check plugs and wires as soon as I get home. The car is garaged most of the time, just stays out when the wife takes it to work or when Im out and about. Thanks for the help.
