May I just say that Mobil 1 is ****ty oil? No self respecting Suby owner uses it anymore since it was discovered that the "full syn" is actually NOT full syn. Since then I've run Royal Purple 5w30 in my 03 WRX and never looked back. Yeah not an Evo, but good oil is good oil. I've got 110k on a stock block and she is still ticking strong.

Enough about my car. As I say in almost all my posts here, I will hopefully be buying my first Evo next weekend. The parts list is long and makes me nervous. I know the 4G63 is a serious workhorse, but if things are done wrong it doesn't matter if the motor is made out of God. I understand Subarus, not Evos, so I don't know if the parts list is ok or if I'm gonna die in 12 seconds. Search for my threads and read the parts list. The thing that makes me nervous the most is the SMC meth injection...seems to be the biggest liability if done wrong. 50/50 trunk setup. I've tried to understand Meth, searched and read, but just as I THINK I get it, I lose it.

If this car has a bad parts list or a weakness I want to know so I can walk away. The parts list is accompanied by a dynograph (not posted here) that shows a paltry 332 at the wheel (yes every car is different, but if you read the parts list you will understand my concern...a VERY similar setup MINUS meth in my '03 WRX would net the SAME results; smaller turbo and bigger injectors at that)...VERY shaky fuel curve too.

I'm a tuning n00b, I like preloaded maps.
The zinc/phos on mobile 1 is 800/900 for the normal blend, 900/1000 for high mileage and 1200/1300 for the 15 W 50 blend. I used normal for the first 70k and have been using high mileage for the last 28k with the last 80k miles being over 400whp and the last 30k miles being over 500whp. If my engine keeps going for some time to come, I will have my doubts on the validity of mobile 1 being so bad.

It may not be as good for built motors with looser tolerances, but on a stock block, I am not convinced. Even then, you can use the 15 W 50 blend and be fine.

Damn Good Article!! Had a ACT HD clutch in my EVO for a couple of years and did not have any problems with it until I started Drag Racing it. It was good enough to get me 11.1/124mph and 1.5s in the 60fts. But after approx. 15+ Drag Launches on HOOSIER DR's the clutch developed lock out issues at 7500+rpms. As a fun daily driver clutch with some bite I actually liked the feel better vs. the EXEDY TWIN HD that I run now. But if your going to Beat you EVO like your stole it you will eventually see why most people who Drag Race will reccommend a TWIN or TRIPLE as that will be required for the sustained abuse!! Just my two cents!

Sorry for the continuation of this oil talk, but I am planning on changing to Amsoil this season and was wondering if you need to change to a certain filter along with it. I currently just use the mobil1 filter with the mobil1 oil

I was recommended 5W40 Shell Rotella T6 for oil by a rotating machines engineer. He gave me the info on his oil tests (he runs a Mazda 3 with garret DBB turbo) and it looks like it has all of the zinc and phosphates levels perfect for our cars/turbos. It is also readily available at Walmart. He says he has never gotten any better oil analysis results from any of the other oils he has run.

Anyone have any experience with it?

Hey can someone please answer this previous question. I would love to hear the answer and would also love to buy my oil at walmart :-). One more question was I heard from somewhere that the M1 0w40 had higher protection in it then the other weights for some reason. Not sure about the 15w50 but higher than say 10w30. PLEASE CHIME IN!!!

http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...duct_Guide.pdf

Found it. It looks like that besides the 0w40 which is higher protection, the 5w40 is even better. NOW FOR THE PRICE AND BETTER PROTECTION THERE IS THE SHELL OIL. IVE BEEN HOOKED ALL DAY READING ABOUT IT ON STI FORUMS AND WOW R THE REVIEWS GREAT!!!

This will be my oil for all my cars/trucks from now on and it's at walmart!!!!

I use only Amsoil fluids and use a Wix filter. Never had a problem with this combination in the 3+ years I have had my evo. I did the switch to Amsoil right after I got the car.
