Angry The bastards broke into my Evo!!!

Tonight we had the hospital Christmas party at a well-known steakhouse just outside Montreal. I parked my car in their private lot. I figured it'd be safe since it was full of Porsches, Mercs, Bimmers and the like. Anyway, at the end of a nice dinner and a glass (or two) of wine, I head out to the Evo to find some f**kers broke into it!

They busted the driver's side door lock and totally ripped apart the steering column. The lock assembly and everything was strewn all over the floor. The even busted my Club off the steering wheel (looks like it was somehow bent...surprisingly, the steering wheel still looks straight). Looks like the ignition kill switch kept them from getting away.

So I was stuck in subzero weather with a car that wouldn't start in a slowly emptying parking lot. The cops came by, admired the Evo, and said there was nothing they could do...no surprise there. They did "helpfully" suggest I not drive such a "flashy" car. Gee, thanks for the tip, officer.

It was about 1 am by the time the CAA (Canadian version of AAA) showed up with a flat-bed. Now the car is sitting in my buddy's garage. I'll have to take it in for service tomorrow. I'm sure it's gonna cost a ton of dough as all the lock cylinder will no doubt have to be changed.

Man, I'm pissed.

Damn that really sucks man. Its just a shame that there are scum like that around.

Working for the local police we average about 10-20 stolen cars a week and double that amount in vandalisms to cars. Be careful guys the holiday season is the biggest for car thefts ect....

Why's that? Christmas shopping?

BTW, the cops noted that it was a professional job, not some kids looking for a joyride. The would-be thieves left all kinds of potentially valuable stuff in the car but took the time to go through the glovebox in hopes of finding some identifying info so they could come back for the car later. Scary.

Then again, if they were such pros, they should have known that Evos all have ignition kills switches. Dumbasses...

Well, I'm off to drink myself to sleep

get a good alarm...try the Viper 790. it has a pager with it, so if some one is messing with your car you get paged.
it also has remote start to....and a bunch of other stuff that you can add on.
I just got the alarm and remote start...it was like $500 (US) installed, but well worth it.

You should have been a smart *** and said "If you think this is flashy you should get out more."

I know your anger. My evo got rear ended by a drunk truck driver last week. It has taken every ounce of self control to keep myself from going over to his house and swinging a sledge hammer through the hull of his boat.

They don't, as far as I know. I bought mine in New Jersey. I've been told by the local dealer that it's the only one in Quebec...and they reckon it's the only one in Canada. The only street version, that is. Rallying is pretty popular here and I'm sure there are a few rally-prepped, non-street-legal Evos foating around.

Anyway, I wish there WERE more in Canada. The car's rarity makes it a real target. Everywhere I park it there's a crowd of people when I get back. People have almost hit me on the highways zooming around the car trying to look at it. They treat it like it's a freaking space ship or something! My friends with real exotics (GT3's, Ferraris, etc.) don't get so much attention.

In this case, I'm not sure an alarm would have helped. These were pros. It probably took them a minute and a half to bust the door lock, bust the steering column, and try to drive away. Even if I had been alerted, the damage would already have been done.

Sorry to hear about that. I had the same thing happen, except that they didn't get into the car.

They pried the door handles out and ruined the locks. You will have to get blanks and have a lock smith key them the same. Might as well do it will the ignition as well as it sounds like they messed that up pretty good.

I was lucky that they didn't get into the car. I know that they were going to steal it as they did no other damage them the locks. I'm sure that the car would have been "Island Bound" as we live in south florida.

Good luck getting it fixed and I certainly feel your pain.

Dude sorry to heard about your car, I got mine stolen and the same thing happen, they broke the driver window and got in and tried to drive it they broke the steering column and got it started, the car ran for about 200ft and died. then they try to push it. all I can say is that they were amatuers because if they were gonna steel it then they should know better to use a flatbed. well We evo owners all have one of the best cars on earth and there are tons of *******s out there wanting what we have. so my recommendation is a great alarm and kill switch, and awesome insurance. Good luck

When it comes to my EVO, I don't let her out of my sight. If I have to go the movies, shopping malls, etc. I take my girlfriend's car, a beat up civic.
Its sad you have to be this paranoid, but the reality is that its a hot car now and these punk *** kids stare at it as I drive by.

I got a old mini-van for the Movies, mall, driving to work and going throw the snow. Hell cheaper then snow tires for the EVO.
