15000mi in 5 months...boost controller never worked since i got the car. got an aftermarket boost controller and gained 6mph on 1/8 mi trap speed...not bad i'd say...
oh yea...also have the bumper rust issue...taken car of at home. along with scratches from a poor PDI job done at the dealership...oh well...not expecting the paint to last long anyhow...

My own little two cents on the "problems" issue. After reading the "Rusting Bumper" thread from start to finish, I went out with a flashlight to check on my silver one with 4900+ mi. Yep sure enough. Not bad by any stretch, but still, aggrivating to say the least. I guess I will have to talk to my dealer tomorrow <sigh>.
Anyhoo, I used to work for 321 Studios, the DVD copying software company, and I was a forum moderator. (http://forum.321studios.com/ see if you can figure out which mod I was) On that forum, we used to get people *****ing all the damn time about how the software was junk and this was all bull**** and how we were ripping people off. The worst part of it was that they would use the number of posts about problems to back up their claim.
My response to them was the same as the one I am about to give now. OF COURSE there are going to be a ****load of "Hey, I'm having this problem" posts. THAT'S ONE OF THE MAIN PURPOSES OF A FORUM!!! How many companies have an online forum? A ****load, right? And how many people log on just to say, "Hey, everything's cool, thanks!"? With the exceptions of this particular forum and ones similar to it, the ones where people have a passion for the topic, no one goes there unless they're *****ing.
Does the rust problem suck? Yes. Do I still love my Evo and think that it's one of the best cars ever built? Double yes. Am I pissed at
? Not really. It's an oversight, and if theyr'e willing to fix the problems on their dime, I don't really have a big problem with it. This is my fourth DSM and by far my favorite. Things break, mistakes are made, ****ing deal with it.

evownz, haveta agree with u...and hope that my post wasn't the one that inspired you to post what you did. my take on this...this company makes tens of thousands of these cars. the likely hood of a problem isn't very low. i don't mind the problems, and am glad to take care of them myself as each time i do, i learn something new as well as learn something new about my car. of course...there's always the oppurtunity to improve..enjoy all =)
5,500 miles
A clunking noise near the front left wheel. Dealer unable to reproduce.
At 3,000 miles after driving about 100 miles on the interstate, I turned off on a service road and it sounded like a CV joint had gone bad - Dealer unable to reproduce.
Funny oil coming from around the passenger air bag area. Dealer to replace dash.
Drivers seat lower fastening coming loose.
Otherwise, put gas in and go.

5500 miles and . . .
-replaced the heater control unit
-three transmission oil changes to cure 2nd gear grinding, decel noise. No more grind but lots of noise still. Note: First trans flush at 4k, fluid was black with lots of metal shavings.
-skipping CD player (I drive 5 miles of mountain dirt rds)
-rock chips on fenders and rocker panels.
-Door seal wind noise above 80 mph.
- O2 sensor replace after plug fell out.
Please know that this car is lots of fun and has the best bang for the buck. yet Mitsubishi has a problem with Evo transimission and Transfer cases. THEY SHOULD DEAL WITH IT!!!!!!!!

I may have jinxed myself with that post about the Mitsubishi Zero fighter.
15,000 Miles
Heater Control Unit Shot
Drivers Seat Lower Fastener Broken
Trans Syncros Going South
All of this is going to be covered - so no biggie. I guess there was a batch of synchros that went into some transmissions that were no good. The dealer was very cool about everything.
