Stock Evos!?
12,000 miles and my problem is the car stumbling and stalling when edging forward in traffic, running horribly rich (pouring black smoke). This is an intermittant problem so understandably difficult to diagnose.
1st trip to dealer replaced front O2 sensor.
2nd trip to dealer, no problem found. Evidence of low quality gas, suggest premium gas in this car (has always had 93 in it). Slightly high fuel trim values noted.
3rd trip to dealer, no problem found. Evidence of race gas (has ALWAYS had 93 in it). Warranty now void on motor (implied, but not explicitly stated) due to use of race gas (see suggestion from second trip
).. After a few phone calls to people above the service manager, tech takes car home overnight with data logger on it. PROBLEM FOUND!!
Rear O2 sensor occasionally reading > +5000mv when the operating range is is something like +-10mv (don't remember the exact number but you get the idea of how far out of whack the reading is). Dealer tech scratches head as to why no CEL or trouble codes..... Mitsu techs scratch heads as to why no CEL or trouble codes. Replaced rear O2 sensor, tested.. Fuel trim values returned to normal, everything A-OK and car returned to me with assurances that my motor warranty is in fact in-tact.
Yesterday, car stalls twice!!!!
:
4th trip to dealer... Will be arranging that later today.
However I still LOVE this car, even though it seems I have a lemon..... It is just phenomenal!!
Now that we have got past accusations of low-octane gas, and then race gas I am happy that they admit there is a problem and that they are working with me on it.....
My only concern is that with the whacked O2 readings the car could've run lean at some point and I have some internal engine damage due to knocking. and WHY am I not getting CEL's???? I have never had one.... Ever!!!
Anyway, I love my car, am happy with the dealer, fairly happy with the way mitsu has handled this, and just want my car fixed....
Sorry for the long post BTW.... Just kinda got carried away

Almost 5K on my Evo and no problems...except for my warped rotors. As said before in this post though, not a huge problem-still an annoyance that you shouldn't have to deal with on any car if you treat it right.
I'm technically not modded anymore, Moss helped (did most of the work himself actually
me install a Vishnu dump-back exhaust not long ago.
No problems with my Evo though...love every minute of it, very solid.
Moss-I was wondering how your car was running, now I know
Looks like you might be getting that MR afterall
Keep up the good attitude-it's nice to hear...more folks should follow your example.

clutch at around 5000 miles, did replace but at 21000 miles now and it is just okay. could be better and 5th gear grind always had it only happens when shifting to 5th around 3000rpms. and the guy in the shop said
" well, they all do that if you throw it up into 5th " he then throws! i meen slams it in 5th and it made the most god ohfull sound. then we got in another evo on the lot and he did the same thing and nothing happened, they still wont do any thing about it

temperature gauge sometimes jumps from hot to cold, gas pedal does nothing at times, brakes decide to engage by themselves every now and then, and left tire occassionally falls off during a right hand turn... other than that, i love my evo!
I've had mine for over a year now. Its got a January 03 build date. The only mod I have done is a mild dynoflash. My car put down 251whp on a 70 degree day after the flash.
Outside of the recall for the faulty wire harness seal, I've had zero problems in almost 42k miles of ownership. Although, I have learned a few things about the car. For one, I wont use anything else except BG synchroshift in the gearbox at this point. It was defintely much notchier with the stock fluid or redline mt90 in there. And it seems the center diff fluid requires frequent changing. I noticed the fluid looked worked much harder than the gearbox or rear diff fluid during my last changing. I am still on the stock clutch, although it does feel like its been gradually engageing higher up on the pedal as time has passed and its been feeling grabbier as well. I've only done maybe 2-3 hard launches ever..
Oh well, outside of having to lube the driver side door lock assembly to get ride of some nasty B-piller creaking noise. The cars been great so far. I did get a CEL light at one point. It turned on as soon as a left a "full serve" gas station. It was the notorious P0300 code for the misfire. I had it cleared around the 34k mile mark and it never happended again. (I tightened the gas cap immediately afterwards and I've never felt any type of stubbling during WOT ever)
My only complaint so far is having to pay so much for new advans and brake pads..

My evo has 16,840 miles and is getting a new clutch as we speak. I have only owned the car for 3 weeks, so I didn't burn the clutch up. ALSO, I think my 2nd gear syncro is weak. My brake rotors vibrate/pulse. Car runs poorly while cold. Paint keeps dulling out...constantly have to wax/polish it.
I should have bought the 350Z.
