compression test results from my evo 9
compression test results from my evo 9
hello here are my numbers on an evo 9 with 59k miles.
Dry: 135, 140, 150, 135
Wet: 140, 149, 157, 150
What you guys think? is this fine or should i be worried? TIA

baseline should be 160 and i believe anywhere +/- 15 is considered a good motor. With that said the numbers are fairly close together so it should be fine for a while, but you wont be making the kind of power you should be making cause your rings have worn down so much. Ive always thought not sure if its true cause ive never tried it, but ive always thought a thicker oil would raise your comp. Ive never tested it yet though so i dont know if it is, maybe someone can chime in and agree or tell me im an idiot lol
Doing a leakdown test is always a good idea if you are concerned with the health of your engine. I would do one for sure, most of the time I do the leakdown and compression tests one after the other, just so I know what I'm dealing with.
i kinda need more feedback. my numbers dont look to be way off. i saw a post earlier today of someone with one of his cylinders in the 90's
now that guy has a serious issue. more ppl with numbers would give me a better understanding of what range i fall in; the good, the norm, the bad, the ugly etc

Engine coolant temperature: 80 − 95°C (176 − 203°F)
Standard value (at engine speed of 250 r/min): 1,128
kPa (163 psi)
Minimum limit (at engine speed of 250 r/min): 951 kPa
(138 psi)
differences of the cylinders are
below the limit.
Limit: 98 kPa (14 psi)

I just did a compression test and leak down test on my stock motor. All test done on a hot motor. For my compression I got 180psi 1-3 and 175psi for cyl 4. For my leak down I got 20% leakage for cyl 1 and 15% for cyl 3-4.

your results is prolly good for another 10k miles, I'd check it again in 5k miles and see how it is.. most modded evo motors start loosing compression around 70k mark.. sub 400hp..
what should i do so they dont worsen? im planning on getting tuned in 4 weeks for E85 and im afraid that 1) this is gonna steal some of that hp and 2) it will make the compression numbers worse if i dont fix this issue.
and just in case you didnt know evo motors have forged internals from FACTORY.

thanks for the info I am a newbie when it comes to EVOs so I am still learning but for the op to
get better result on his compression test don't he would have to do some engine work like replacing the rings and while he is at it wouldn't it be better just getting stronger internals??

I was reading and this is what I got :
Low compression in one cylinder usually indicates a bad exhaust valve. Low compression in two adjacent cylinders typically means you have a bad head gasket. Low compression in all cylinders would tell you the rings and cylinders are worn and the engine needs to be overhauled.

Studioface your last post is 100% correct I couldn't agree with it more. My thing is I need to know if my numbers are in the norm or bad. And if so what is the highest and lowest compression for an evo 9.
sorry man I didn't mean to sound like an *** in the precious post I'm also a newbie. Much love!
