I do not know of any "free", as in do this little thing or remove that little dohickey for some more power. The Evo comes pretty efficient from the factory. Some peeps remove the stock muffler for a few ponies, but then you have hot gases exiting in a non appropriate area.

One "free" thing to do is get used to using your water sprayer more effectively (auto is fine, but extra manual squirts at the right time and conditions do wonders).

One "free" mod that I have been learning about recently is driver training. Taking the time to learn how to drive a car correctly (at a racing school for example) is probably the single most rewarding "upgrade" you can get. This will allow you to not only extract as much performance and fun as you can get out of your car, but will help you be safer as well!

Hmm.. I wonder what would happen if you disconnected the stock boost solenoid wiring harness (Aside from the check engine light) If its 19psi through redline, that would be a free mod.. if its 16psi from peak through redline, that would be a waste of time.. LOL

Nah, if you disconnected the boost control solenoid, it will just default to the waste-gate pressure which is less than 10 lbs.

*OR* disconnect the hose going from the BCS to the wastegate solenoid...then you will have unregulated full boost all the time lol. NOT A GOOD IDEA

A boost controller is damn near free. MBC's are as cheap as $30. You could take your air filter out. That will give you a few hp, but might mess up your engine.
