I am taking care of a friend's 2003 Evo VIII while he is over seas. When he dropped the car off this morning he told me about the noise it was making. Last night he decided to dump the clutch at high rpm so he could get a bit of a thrill(moron) and it is making a LOUD rattling noise all through 1st gear. Once you hit 2nd gear you have to listen really hard to hear it. Past second the sound is gone. I've been working on cars for a while now(mainly motors) and have never heard anything like this... Any ideas? The help would be much appreciated.

 

I get the same thing too,and i just put a new trans ans clutch in. I have no idea what it is.

 

Could it be twin-disc chatter?

No twin disc. The trans was destroyed. Pic of the drain plug......
