Humming noise between 70 and 80 mph
Hey Guys,
So about 4 months ago I had my blown transfer case replaced with a stage 2 shep tcase. Everything was great, except for some vibration and rattle noises that I have. I've replaced the stock clutch with a ACT full face street clutch.
Recently in the past month I've noticed that I hear this humming noise that occurs when I let off the gas in while in between 70 and 80 mph. If I immediately shift the car into neutral, the noise goes away. I've asked Trevor over at Shep and he doesn't think it's my tcase. My question is, could something be wrong with the 5th gear in my tranny? Could other components cause a humming noise on decel while in gear such as a bearing or something? I already know I have a smoked 1st gear as when I accelerate I get a HIGH pitched whine between 2500 and 3000 rpm. It would suck if I had to replaced both 1st gear and 5th gear...
Oh and btw, I've had the tranny and tcase fluids changed twice since my tcase replacement. In the tranny I have the Shep cocktail including 2 QT's of MT-90 and 1 QT of Lightweight Shockproof. In the tcase I'm using OEM Diagueen. I tried to take a video of the humming noise but you can faintly hear the noise... if you turn up your speakers, you might catch it better
Any ideas would be great.
Thanks!
