Hey! I need some help! Value!

Hey! I dident want to admit this here but its inevitable. I wrecked my pristine 2006 Evo 9 MR SE. It had 20,466 miles on it. The interior looked like it had never been used. The body was perfect! No scratches. No dents. No dings. No chips. PRISTINE! This car could have literally been sold for new if someone rolled the odometer back LOL!

So now i have an insurance claim filed. They initially offered me $23,100 for the car and wouldn't move one bit! So in NY where i live to dispute an insurance claim value you have what they call the "Right of Recourse". What this means is you (the owner of the car) Hire an appraiser of your choice. They appraise the vehicle. If the insurance company does not agree with the value from this appraisal they must hire an appraiser. If the two values arent with in a certain amount (im not sure the exact amount but its like $500 or $1000) than both the insurance company and the owner together hire a third appraiser. What this guy says goes.

So heres the story. My appraiser valued the car at $31,000. Of course the insurance company dident like this so they hired an appraiser. There appraiser gave a value of...$21,000! But there guy did not find ANY comparables! All the cars he found were either not MRs or had over 45,000miles or a TON of mods! Mine was bone stock!

What do you guys think my car is valued at? BEFORE THE ACCIDENT! Specifically if your a Moderator, Work in a legitimate body shop, are a licensed appraiser, Own or Work at a dealership, Or have any kind of ratings in the automotive community! But please! Everyone either give your amateur or expert opinion!

Thanks, Trever

You would be hard pressed to get more than $23,000. You can almost buy a new Evo for $31,000.

I bought mine about 6 months ago for $22,000 and it had 36,000 miles and was a 2006 SE with only a couple mods. I also had to travel half way across the country to get it.

what it's worth to you and what it's worth in reality are different things...it could be the last pristine evo ix mr left in the world on paper it's worth nada value at the given mileage and condition...they don't make exceptions like that

I'd say $24,500-$26,000 is the max

Actually they do make exceptions like that. If you have the last of its kind you know where the value is determined by NYS law? What you paid for it is now the set value for that vehicle! Also remember the value is not what some book says. Nor what i say. It is what the car would have sold for at a dealer within 100 miles of your house. If you cant find a car VERY SIMILURE (meeting the "comparable vehicle" rules of NYSI) than you keep moving out. You do this until you find at least two but preferable three comparables. Than you either average these out or take an average and add or subtract a modifier. For instance if all the comparables had 5,000 more miles you would add a mileage modifier. and if they all had 5,000 less miles than you would subtract the mileage modifier. But they will go as far as they can with in your country (USA) to find comparables as close to the vehicle in question. If and only if this is not possible (meaning cars like that are not for sale or have not sold with in three months of the accident) than they have to use a modifier or if no other car even close exists than they will "CREATE" the value but either add or subtracting to the amount you paid for the vehicle.

So i am not looking to get the value I want nor am i looking to get the value the insurance company wants. I just want the actual value. And seince all the IX MR SE i have seen for sale were either not in pristine condition or had an asking price of $30,000+ (and i know two of which sold for $29,999) i belive the value is at least $30,000! But def NOT $21,000 or even $23,100

I paid 21 for my car with 28000 miles on it

23k is a generous offer from an insurance company

i really dont think you guys know what i had here! If you guys can find me an EVO 9 MR SE in the same condition as mine with the same miles as mine for less than $28,000 PLEASE TELL ME! Again this is not susposed to be BOOK value! Book value works okay on mass produced cars that there are tons of! What was there...like 900 MR SE's brought to the states? And i know theres not that many left. There are def half as many of the ones left than have 20,000 miles on them. And only half of them are bone stock! Mods make the value go down in most cases!

And no i dident just buy this! I am however looking to buy another! Because i have a feeling low mile Evo IXs will be worth someting down the road! And of course i go and destroy mine! How ever it is getting fixed but wont be numbers matching!

So if you really think a car like this is worth $23,000 find me one for that much! Ill buy it in a heart beat! I have CASH in hand!

I am from NY, work at a dealership and see this.

What you think it is worth, is not what the insurance company will give you.

I would say you would be lucky to get $26k, move on or just buy it back.

Good luck in whatever you do.

exactly as I said

what it's worth to YOU and what it's worth technically are not at all the same

I called Geico a few weeks back and asked if I can over insure my EVO 8 MR, I told the rep I want to insure my EVO for 40k. The rep said I cant, that I would have to find a different insurance company that does that.
oh they also said that if my EVO gets totaled they will pay me the average between trade-in and private sale, thats it!
I recommend finding another insurance company that will let you over insure the EVO.

$21000 is definitely a low ball, you should be looking at around $26000-28000 based on where you are from. Keep us posted with how it goes.
