Those of you with 500+ ftlbs of torque, how did you battle torque steer?
^
the only review with what your looking for is TIRE RACK they have reviews that they do on their skid pad and auto x course on the same car
not to be confused with their user reviews
if there is truly can be a 5 percent loss in grip for 40 percent life I'll take that too, but I don't think you really understand how big the difference can be.
here is a test
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=118
RS-3 should be quite a bit better performance wise as they rival the grip levels of DOT semi slicks like NT01's...according to user reviews AND my personal experience riding/driving friends evo's with the tire. (I run Nt01's on track)

I was unaware Tire Rack does those type of reviews. I will definitely need to look at that.
And it is definitely possible that I do not quite understand the difference. That's why I need to do research. Getting other Evo owners opinions also greatly helps in the decision.

Yah I didn't mean to be super negative in my posts, but seriously even at the power I am making I can see how full throttle in 3rd and hitting any sort of weird bump in the road can put you in a bad situation. So I am thinking to myself with 225's (smaller than a stock tire) there is no way you can even go WOT without them cutting loose.
I run 225 RS3's on my integra with 170whp, so I guess that's why I have such a strong opinion on it. The evo is a different animal and I think after you try a sticky tire you won't go back. It will inspire more confidence and really allow you to be more comfortable knowing that you can push the car a little bit and not have to worry about it.

Ok, so this did get a little de railed from the main point.
if you do go 275's I think the KDW2's will be fine....there a pretty good all around tire as you already know
what I was trying to say is that If you went 255 RS-3 you shouldn't have a problem either. (and all the mentioned tires ARE better then kdw2's at least performance wise)
one thing we can all agree on....225's especially crappy 225's on an evo like yours is pretty much worthless.
one thing that makes researching tires a little confusing is that even in the tire rack tests, you can only compare the tires that are in that specific review, you can't go and look up another test because they have a couple different cars that they use. (and therefore also test different tire sizes)

245-265 would make a huge difference in how it feels and everyone is right about 225 being too small and crappy tires are a death trap. Buy a used set of good tires rather than a new set of crappy ones. my 1.25 cents.
The link above doesnt wok for me, this is a review done by car and driver. Whats funny is the tire that was supposed to be the benchmark in the comparasin wound up being as good as the dunlop star specs. http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...mparison_tests
The only time I have any sort of issue is at full throttle in 2nd or 3rd and have:
1) already started switching over those little reflector things separating the lanes. I have to ease the car over those because they unsettle the car as the tire goes over the slick piece of plastic.
2) The left wheels are going over a different sort of pavement than the right wheels (happens a lot on california ****ty freeways) Even with 300whp the diff doesn't like it at all and is trying to figure out what to do. So you can feel the car sort of pulling to one side, but I'm sure most evo drivers are used to it by now. I wouldn't attempt WOT over that sort of uneven pavement situation.

With the setup you listed, it sounds like you are going to have to run a bit of camber to make it fit without hitting. It may still be a bit dodgy/twitchy even with 275's.
Another thing you can consider doing is tuning the boost curve more to the right so that it's not such a hard immediate hit of torque down low with a fast drop off. If you tune the boost curve to spool a little less rapidly, your peak torque will hit later in the powerband and may be more controllable. Just a thought.

I'd start with an alignment, at least get it checked.
If that doesn't fix it.....
Polyurethane bushings.
If you look close at some HQ dyno vids, you can see the front camber toe in slightly during a pull. Poly bushings won't totally eliminate it, but will greatly reduce it.
Down side, your car rides like a brick! If you don't grease the bushings properly, sounds like a Sherman tank.
If that doesn't fix it....
Better diff(s)?
I had an 04 SRT-4 w/ the quaife differential. I barely noticed any torque steer. When I drove my friends 03 w/o the quaife, it had horrible torque steer.
It doesn't sound like tires... Increasing section width seems like it would only make torque steer worse, at this point.... At least it did on my FWDs.
I'm not a professional at the suspension stuff, I'm just throwing it out there.

Two excellent posts. Thank you.
I will definitely be shifting the torque curve slightly to the right and rolling onto the boost a little more gradually when we convert to SD next week.
Had an alignment done 3 weeks ago. It had little effect on the torque steer.
I believe the polyurethane bushings will be the next step after wheels/tires. The differential could potentially be done but that is a good chunk of change and will have to wait a few months. Thank you for the post.
