About JDM EVOs, STis, skylines, etc.
Just read a story of someone getting screwed by EI AGAIN! Well, I ALMOST got screwed and ALMOST bought a JDM Evo VII way back but luckily, I found that the price was too much for me then so I gave up. My stupidity did thought that they were really going to be legalized and such.
Well, my godfather's close friend in Hong Kong imports JDM vehicles and even European ones to HK. It ranges from JDM Evos, Skylines, Soarers, Harriers, Celsiors, etc. However, they do not have warranty like the factory ones do. They are checked to everything at brand new and working order so it IS perfect when you get it. So if something goes wrong in 6 months, dont expect to go for warranty.
If anyone wants a Japanese Evo, STi, or any JDM car, PM me and I can get you one. BUT, I do not know how to legalize and will not do some RHD to LHD conversions. Once u get ur car, ur on ur own unless it's broken. I dont even know how to insure it. I couldve bought a JDM EVO VII instead of my USDM EVO VIII before but I do not know of any conversion places and how to legalize it.
So PM me if you have any questions. I'll ask my godfather this weekend. I can contact the importer as well since I am in HK right now but I wont be here too long.

To get a foreign car legalized is a lot more work and time than one would think. And very expensive. And there is no guarantee that once the car is here, that it will eventually be permitted to be used on a public road. The Evo VII is a particularly tough example since it is not substantially different from the Evo VIII. A lot of money goes toward proper filing and crash-testing, airbag testing, etc. OBDII also really gets in the way of things. It's mostly certification that is the issue. The sad part is that there's little actual modification needed to be done to the car; foreign market cars are as emissions-friendly and crashworthy as US-spec cars.
Insurance is actually the easy part, since most companies have specialty policies.
Another consideration: financing. Most banks will not float a loan to import a car. Oftentimes, to pay for the car will require a home equity loan or a personal loan.

I can just bring the car here. Whatever you guys want to do, you can do it. You can list it as a wrecked Lancer but if you get caught, oh well...unless u get the vins swapped onto ur Evo VII
The JDM units though have slightly more features than the export ones do not have a warranty with it. The car may well be damaged and re-touched if not purchased from a reliable source. Plus these guys importing the cars out there wants to make a gob of profit from importing these cars. My friend is a car importer himself and he mentioned that bringing in the cars are dirt cheap. they mark up the price to make a big profit for themselves. So, if anything goes wrong with these re-conditioned cars then it's too bad for the customer.
