SRT4/Evo question

To the guy that posted the SCC links about eVO being car of the year... do you know which car SCC had picked last year for Car of the Year? I'll give you 1 guess.

i see both on a daily basis
Here is a real world comparison of the two. I own a Tarmac Black Evo and my roomate owns a black SRT4. We both bought them in Setember only 2 days apart from each other.
BUYING
As far as trying to buy them I spent 10 min finding out what dealer sells EVOs in Columbus and bought my car in less than 3 hours at the dealer (of course no test drives allowed). As for him it was a totally different story. He spent 8 months trying to get his black SRT4. He was even going to make a trip to Florida to get one. They are that "hot". They are not called Neons and no where on the official Dodge website will you ever see the words Neon and SRT4 together. We all know its a Neon but Dodge is trying to sell the fact that is another car altogether.
Quailty/daily driving
My car is far superior in quality than his will ever be. The front seats are HORRIBLE in his car, shifter feels "gooey" in my hand compared to my EVO. The dash is typical Dodge plastic (fakey looking). Some good points include his boost gauge which is big clear, easy to read and comes STOCk. The guages are alittle birghter and look nicer compared to the EVO. The EVO interior is pretty plain but it is quality. That feel of quality is just not apparent in the SRT4.
Daily driving for both seems to be ok. His car is obviously a smoother ride. The SRT4 exhaust (or lack of one) makes for a "YOU KNOW I'M COMMING" appeal. It is loud and typical ricer sounding. Both cars have large wings, and a unique "boycar" styling. I have driven both for small everyday driving trips and I feel more confortable in the EVO. It feels like a tighter ride. Just be prepared to go over bumps slowly in the EVO.
Racing / Performance
This is where both cars shine obviously. I have driven both cars fast in strait lines and cornering. The SRT4 is a monster of a car in a strait line. When light to light racing he beats me every time. The slight wheel spin of FWD actually helps for a better launch. I haven't mastered AWD yet but I can say that it is much easier for a beginner to sit in his car and whip out good 1/4 times. EVO takes alot of patience to launch. Either bog the engine or burn the clutch, that happy middle is tough to find. Both cars pull pretty hard. I like the feel of my EVO better in the higher gears when the Turbo spools up but the SRT4 OWNS first gear "back of seat Gs" The turbo in the SRT4 is not as loud as the EVO when it spools up.
Anything other than a strait line there is not even any questions about it. EVO all the way. Even with his 2004 model with the LSD he still manages to slip around the road.
Overall we both love each others cars but in the end he still has $10,000 dollars to buy a new computer, ect... with. I would say the EVO is a "hell" of a deal for the price but the SRT4 is just an astrnomical deal. I think Dodge could have sold the darn thing for for 25k ish without any problems. If I couldn't have forked out $550 per month on the EVO I would have jumped ALL over the SRT4. Remember its "not a Neon"

I laid down the facts and you guys got your panties in a bind.
I UNDERSTAND THE SRT4 IS NOT A NEON!!
THE REASON YOU BUY AN EVO IS FOR AWD AND CONTROL! NOT DRAG RACING. THE FACT THAT IT RUNS 13's IS A BONUS!
SRT4 and EVO are both great cars. Just don't compare a car that is based on an entirely different drivetrain!
You guys are putting words in my mouth assuming I do not know the difference between a neon and a srt4.
My argument still stands!
THE EVO IS AWD and you cannot mod that into an SRT4 making the EVO A better long run choice.
For the porsche, the EVO out slaloms even the new AWD 911 porsche.

Stop posting this rice rumor garbage about SRT4 being faster!
Stop posting this rice rumor garbage about SRT4 being faster!
Anyone who claims the SRT4 is faster in a line does not own an EVO or does not know how to drive it!
I launch properly, have wrote tutorials on launching and run fast times in my EVO with time slips!
http://www.dsmtimes.org/evo.htm
When you launch the EVO it compleately destroys anything 13.5 seconds or slower stock. When you drive the EVO like a NOOB you will run 14.2.
Ever drive a WRX? It runs 15's if you do not launch. When launched properly it runs low 14's.
Please learn how to launch your AWD car before posting this rice rumor garbage about the SRT4 being faster!

AGh this thread is on every forum there's always a srt4 person that wants to add something about their srt4. We know the #, we know the facts, and we know its a neon. All you get is a faster neon and thats it, and the evo its not a lancer its a whole diff car. Look just go to school and try to get a good job so you can forget asking about srt and get yourself an evo.
and to kind of sum this up......it's doesn't even really make sense comparing the cars.......there's a $10k price difference there for a reason......these cars aren't in the same league. For $20k the SRT is a LOT of car for the money......at $30k the EVO is a lot MORE car for the money.
The only thing that could have stoped this thread was using the freaking SEARCH feature. This has been gone over many, many and many more times. Try a search next time. Nothing has changed so I would think if you used search you would find the same answers you found in this useless thread.

Both cars are awesome. They are also in different classes, but share the same heart ... They are cars made for people who love Motorsports.
The Evo is an image car... the SRT is the opposite... it's an I have something to prove Car (sleeper)
Is 4wd Superior? Yes and No.
Are they more stable? Yes
Do they Pose as a Paracite For Top Speed Runs? Yes
Will an srt4 stock for stock eventually pull on a evo8? possibly
I am estimating 145+ mph topspeed runs for the neon
I am estimating at least 138 for the evo
Will a Evo8 Outrun a srt from 0 - 100 mph? possibly
Does the srt still feel cheap? It's based on a neon... you can answer that question
Will the Evo's tranny be more expensive to fix/maintan yes.
Will you break more axles with a SRT yes
Please people, Both cars are great cars, but many of you feel the need to be reassured on your purchase.
How many of you guys would sell your cars if you lost to a neon?
I know many of my friends would...
BTW I Own a Honda and you know how us guys can get about superiority

I was being conservative on both those numbers. Without the stage one upgrade for the srt, it's "magazine top speed" was at 153 with the governer kicking in... who knows with the upgraded ecu and injectors (factory option).
Has anyone topped out their evo's yet?
