SRT4/Evo question

I was looking at the Neon SRT 4 *actually a decent look.... just the fact that it's a NEON with that same distinct look turns me off lol * ... and how the hell did they achieve 29/36 mpg

Knowing that the Evo is about a good 30-50 hp up on it... the mpg for an Evo is like 18/26... I would have expected at least 22 and 25 or something lol ... I believe the Neon is turbocharged also sooOo yah .... The look inside is the same *dont get technical with the Recaros kay Lol* ... And the price

thats like 10k below... Which is again why I ask if the Evo is a bit pricey cause some magazines seem to think so ... *at least from the couple I've read*

Dont get me wrong... Evo wins the overall look contest but still ... that mpg and price should be close to what an evo should be at... right?! LoL I'm guessing theres something ....or a lot of things I'm misunderstanding

as far as it goes with the SRT 4 yeah maybe it does... but i doubt it ill have to ask the guy i know that owns one. I stomped him everytime we race... he has quite a few mods also and even giving him some advantage we went from a 2nd gear roll and still won.... as far as the car handling and stopping ehh... the srt 4 doesnt hold a candle too it look at the brakes on a srt4 if you get a chance lol peeezy and small i dont regret buying the evo 1 bit over the srt4......

evo is definately not pricey..u have to think of the build quality of the evo compared to the srt4. the evo has so many more weld points and the chassis is so much more rigid the srt4 chassis. and also think about the 4wd drivetrain of the evo and fwd of neon..4wd is obviously more expensive..

if u look at it this way, both cars are definately well worth the money. yes the evo is only a little bit faster but the build quality, the engine, the transmission are all strong. we'll see how the neon holds up..

i really doubt the gas mileage of an srt4 is 29/36..u probably looked at a stock neon

As everyone has said the price is hard to pass up! The neon was built so that Dodge could get in to this market. They built the car knowing that it would attract people that wanted a hot rod but didn't want to pay 30g's or more for it so that is what they built. The neon is fast and can do well in the corners if you know how to drive it but it is harder to drive and not as fun to drive as the EVO is. Honestly you should drive them both and then make a better decision. Trust me when you go to the dealers and tell them that you are looking at an EVO and a SRT-4 the salesmen will probably be on the phone with each other trying to state which one is better and starting an argument. These are two totally different cars that is why you haven't seen any hardcore tests between the two and that is why they are in two different price ranges. Honestly you probably can't go wrong but you know what one everyone else on here is going to choose.

The one that will hit sixty in a blink of an eye with no wheel spin!

So how much is the NEON SRT-4??

I mean, after you stick 2-3,000 grand in it to be able to "smoke" an EVO, you might as well have just spent a little more and got the real deal, right??

You are buying a NEON people..PULEEEZE..

Get the EVO and leave the NEONS for the budget wannabe racers and poseurs..I never saw a NEON give any other budget racer a run for his money, and I certtainly haven't seen any on the track at RoadAmerica...

(Hopefully some NEON owner doesn't get on my case for saying it, bit this is my opinion and I can have one!! )

There is no way the SRT4 gets 29 city! Its rated like 20mpg city if I am right. As for driving the two, I drove them both. I actually had money down on an 04 SRT4 before I bought my Evo. The SRT4 is a great car for the money you spend. The things I couldn't stand about it though were the seats, FWD and the fact that everyone I showed the car to still thought it was a Neon. I just couldn't buy a car that everyone would think is just a Neon, even though its not.

yeah, I shopped the EVO also when I bought my SRT but settled on the SRT striclty because I didn't quite want to drop that much cash at the moment.

With the EVO you DEFINITELY get your moneys worth. You get a car that basically goes, stops, and turns as a whole better than anything short of a $60k Vette or Porsche. That is something you'll never get with the SRT no matter how much $$$ you spend.

The cars are in 2 completely different categories. Sure, the SRT is fast in a straight line......matter of fact SRTGURL does 12's in hers with only an exhaust, intake, and drag slicks. But who the **** cares about going in a straight line??? I sure don't.

For the $$$ in the $20k range the SRT is a fantastic car that goes fast, handles and brakes OK, and IMHO looks pretty cool. The EVO takes everything to an entirely different level. When you drive one you'll see where the extra $10k went......it's a bargain at that price if you ask me.

BTW the best thing about the SRT is smoking the **** out of people who say it's "just a neon". The SRT is about as close to a Neon as the EVO is a base Lancer or the STI is to an Impreza. After all, turning isn't the SRT's strong point but it sure is good for playing around at stoplights........it's deceptively fast in a straight line.

My first choice was the SRT-4, and the only reason I ended up not getting it was he Dealership jerking me around on when they expected to get it.. After a few weeks, I found out the Evo was going to be available and I went with that instead.. Their two completely different cars, and I love them both, I would buy an SRT-4 in a second if I had the extra cash.

Uh... NO. How many body panels are the same on an SRT4 and a Neon? How much more body stiffining does the SRT4 have? What about the whole AWD thing on the EVO?

Yah that mpg is on a stock Neon SRT4 ... I think it's less for the 04 model .... thats pretty damn good...even if that's an estimate ... Yah the Evo still wins my heart over LoL ... but the Neon SRT 4 was an unexpected car that I would get interest in if I was desperate for a fast car...for 20 k hhaha ....

so I'm guessing that there's really no chance of an SRT 4 gaining on an Evo *good cause that would be SAD LoL* ... someone gimmie a comparsion of the Evo plz....

like its a cross between... LoL

here's some cars to use ... 350zx... datsun 240z ... pontiac firebird ... etc...

?????? I'm not following you........the SRT has upgraded brakes, tires, wheels, suspension, anti-roll bars, hood, front end, rear end, ground effects, engine, turbo, tranny, diff, interior, seats, gauges, steering wheel, shifter, etc. etc........that's why they call it an SRT-4......nowhere on the car or on Dodge's website is it called a Neon.....and for good reason.....it's not

Best thing to do would probably be just go test drive one. My local dealer let me with no probs. It's not really comparable to anything else so I'm not sure how to explain it. They've never build AWD cars here with 270+ HP that handle like they're on rails. I've driven about everything there is since my dad sold cars for nearly 20 years and I really have nothing to compare it to..............except maybe an old Galant VR-4 if you slammed it and tacked on 100 more HP

I drive a Lancer Evolution and you drive a Neon SRT4. No one can say that a SRT4 is as far from a Neon as a Evo is to a Lancer. There IS a bigger difference... and its not just the AWD system.
