^^^ That's very good advice. Don't need cams yet or any manifolds.

With that said, back out of the AP if it's not too late and pick yourself up a $300 notebook (if you don't have one) and a Tactrix cable. You can find them here, http://www.tactrix.com/ or buy one used. This is a cheaper, more effective way to tune your Evo.

After doing that, download ECUflash and EvoScan on your laptop. Then I would load the EU/TephraMod base map. It'll turn your CEL into a built-in knock sensor light (that flashes upon knock) as well as other things. Basic tuning is very easy as well, just do some research in the tuning section of the forums. Lots of help over there.

As for hitting your power goals, shouldn't be too hard but remember, keep it simple! Too many people go all out for something like 700whp and regret (some people are crazy and love it, mind you). Go with TBE (make sure you get DP that's for 05-06 because of ACD fitment), HKS Reloaded Intake (pricey but worth it), IC piping, MBC (halman is a great one), 255 fuel pump (better safe than sorry), 720-1050 CC injectors and a solid tune should put you in the 350whp-400whp with great drivability and reliability. I wouldn't bother with cams for those numbers - MIVEC will do just fine with those mods. Don't bother with intake/exhaust manifolds either, the stock parts work great at those numbers. If anything, get them ported at a good shop, reliable shop but I wouldn't even bother with that. O2 housing is an easy cheap mod, but I wouldn't bother if your going to stick with the keeping it simple mindset. It won't make a huge difference with those mods.
Quoting for later reference.

Personally coming from a sti using the AP, I like it. I like the features and I am about 45 mins from CBRD, who will be doing any work i need done which is not know by chad yet ha. I like to keep track of things and data log to look back on for anything that looks like a problem or to make sure its all working great. I plan on keeping it catted for a better sound, but im curious to hear what people are getting gas mile wise with the green/red set up and cams. I plan on changing the turbo in about 15k miles just because i feel better and usually take the extra steps for the extra things that you dont need, but I do it just because.

Personally I would rather spend an extra $100 on a part and know its good then get something for now and regret it later on. To everyone, What parts would you suggest? I think I'm going to use AMS pipes, forge mbc, but i really haven't done enough trolling around to be for sure. anyones take on what are the better/top brand for each part?

With the tactrix/laptop combo you'll be able to do a lot more than the AP AND it's cheaper AND you'll have a laptop at the end of the day There's a really good reason why they've never tuned AP with an Evo.

This is true-

there is SOOO much more functionality and customization available with open source-

we charge more for a Cobb tune, because its time consuming!

I agree that Tactrix plus ECUFlash is the better option.

I wouldn't call it open source however. Try obtaining the ECUFlash source code for any recent version.

I'm a software developer and would love to actually obtain the source. Last excuse I heard for not releasing source was "It's a complicated build process". The only source I found was for some old DOS version. Correct me if I'm wrong and you have a link to current sources.

I tend to call it "free tuning software" after discovering the lack of actual "open" source to freely obtain and inspect. This may have something to do with ECUFlash trying it's best not to work with "non official" tactrix cables.

Anyways, I'm semi off topic because it seems people don't really care about how software is licensed as long as it's free as in beer. I prefer free as in freedom personally....
