Tough Decision: Trade Evo VIII for R32 GTR
The R33 is the one that was crash tested, so it would be "the one not getting seized" except it IS getting seized.
I think I also read somewhere that the 21-year rule did not apply to vehicles that were illegally imported before that age, but I can't find it. I do, however find mention of a 25 year limit.
So, at best:
There is a chance that maybe it won't get seized after 21 years.
There is a chance that maybe it won't get seized after 25 years.
There is a chance that no matter how old, it will get seized regardless as it was illegally imported, particularly via Florida's "title anything" registration process. I wouldn't be surprised if ICE started was going down Florida's registration list on these cars.
All this for a car that loses every single per-dollar comparison to an Evo except for uniqueness, and it's a no-brainer.
Keep the Evo.

How come if your car is 21+ it gets seized?? are you given compensation?
Sounds ****ed up if some one was trying to take my GTR i'd tell them to put it up there *** then hide my car.
And I'd keep the EVO skylines are so common and the EVO is much newer

Google search for seized skyline and you'll see what it is all about. And no, you won't hide your car, tell them to put it up their ***, etc. They will arrive with law enforcement and call a flatbed truck.
If there is anyway to own both go for it.
If not and you go for the GTR you might someday find yourself without a car or the money.
Even more so now this has been posted about on a public forum.
Big Brother has plenty of employees and many get paid to be on the internet looking for various things. Of course it is all for your protection.

Skylines are common however the ball-busting GTR's are not so. They are in the US not in AUS bud so the evo is more common than the GTR. Even in AUS the GTR is not as common as you might think.

Yeh I guess but where I live you see the GTRs all the time, my old cruise had like 5 but not one EVO. I'm the only person in my area I know who has an EVO. I had the choice between R32 GTR with 60K or EVO 8 MR with 50K im happy with my choice even tho the evo was like 10000 more expencive.
you all talking about common in your area is funny. Here there are no Skylines and only two evos (used to be 4 but have not seen the 9 or 10 in over a year).
Then again most people here think my evo is just some Honda
And to OP, keep the Evo. You're going to have a bigger headache when something breaks on the Skyline. You have to remember it's imported so the US doesn't make much of any parts for them. You would have to import parts from Japan itself and shipping isn't going to be cheap either. Since you say you track your car here and there, I'm pretty sure something will break on that Skyline and it will be costly.

Motorex went under LONG ago, and the people running it got busted for some shady things.
It was Kaizo that was the company who had supposedly found a loophole more recently, which obviously ended up not being the case. What they were doing was selling the body and engine separately (though in some cases, you'd only be able to buy the body from them and you'd have to source your own engine), but it was registered as a kit car (or something along those lines), as the paperwork for them had them listed as a 2008 Kaizo rather than a 1989 Nissan (or whatever the case may be). And then, as we all know, the government cracked down on those cars and weren't going to let the car slide as a kit car.

IMO that GTR would only be an option if you have a good amount of money (for the above maintenance issues), if the car will be used for show purposes (very rarely driven), or be used for some serious racing (as in being sponsored).
Though the coolness factor of owning one would be tempting.
Just remember that crash testing is NHTSA. You still have to deal with DOT certification, EPA certification, et al. Bottom line, you can spend the money, get it "legal" and then you are most likely going to face ENDLESS hassle from local enforcement as well as Customs, because no matter what you do, you are not going to get anyone with enough power to "sign-off" on you owning and driving that car in the US. It's bullcrap, yes, but still fact.
As far as auctioning is concerned... You MAY be able to buy a Skyline for "show/race use only", but that car will not be able to carry road insurance, or be registered (in most states... Like I said, FL will register anything). If it is ever caught driving illegally on the street, it may be seized. I'd imagine even show/race owners keep detailed records showing that the car is never driven on roads, but understand, I think those cars still face some risk of seizure unless they are a proven tuner/race team with a reputation for show cars (think Alpine, Pioneer Electronics, HKS, Tein, etc.). Still I bet a crapload of documentation is necessary.
Thank Gran Turismo for the exposure of the GT-R and subsequent focus of the crackdown.

that R32 would be a garage queen and making it your only car(DD and track) do not go into the same sentence. The EVO is an obvious choice between these 2 for your needs and like someone else said, you found a good low mileage clean EVO. If the R32 would be your second car I would say go for it but you are giving the EVO so I say no.
