Tough Decision: Trade Evo VIII for R32 GTR
Today I have run through the full gamut of emotions...
Last Friday I purchased this gorgeous TB VIII with only 16,200 miles after looking for about 2 months. It is completely stock and I am absolutely thrilled with it.

Then today at a barbecue with friends I see this in the park.

It's a 1991 R32 GTR. It has 80,000km (50,000 miles), very clean, Apex I intake and exhaust, HKS coilovers and Rotas(meh). It is registered and titled and insured in FL, it was imported into Canada and then into the US.
I jokingly asked if he would trade it for my Evo and he agreed. He is getting out of the car game to start his own restaurant and needs cash. He would just take my Evo to CarMax for a quick sale.
Thoughts? Comments? I really don't know what to think.
I do 6 to 8 track days a year so high performance reliability is pretty high on my list.
I would still need to drive it and have a mechanic check it out, but the thought of owning it has me thinking bad things.

Keep the Evo. You obviously hunted hard and long for the "perfect" Evo, why give it up so quickly for a 20 year old car? Sure, its a GTR, but it's still 20 years old using 15 years older technology.
R32 is certainly a great car, in NZ they're worth about the same as good quality VIII. Not bad for a car that is 12 years older. Evo is definitely more comfy, a better dd and has better technology. But the R32 gives drivers feelings that a lot of people wouldn't post on a public forum.
I empathize with you, I would certainly be tempted but I need things that a 1991 car does not have. +1 for the evo.

Its not to hard of a decision really...I got my Evo because I wanted a Line (R33 mainly). I would've been happy with a R32 also. But the hassle, risk, cost of importing one, just wasn't happening. I can't imagine the costs and down time to mod a Line. My Evo is ridiculous fast at this point but cost alot of money and down time to get it there, good luck even finding anyone that can do quality work on a Line. It would be a shame to even Mod your Evo, its hard to find them that perty and low of miles!? You got a bad *** car now and if you wanted to mod it up you can smoke any and all comers. If you had the right connections and knew and trusted the right people, then I wouldn't hesitate and grab the R32...I had a chance on getting a R33, trust me I know how you feel, but I would be really happy with what you picked up and maybe one day you can have both! That's my personal delusion that I just know will happen!
Keep the Evo. Aside from the possibility of the R32 getting seized (as mentioned before), there are probably plenty of other headaches that will come with it, like maintenance, insurance, etc.
An acquaintance of mine also has an R32 GT-R, and it's quick, but it's nothing that I would go out of my way for to own as a daily driven vehicle unless I just had stacks of cash that needed to disappear right away.

Im pretty sure the R32 is the skyline that isn't getting seized. If you lived in SoCal, I would just send you to SP Engineering, as they have built a ton of those. But you're looking at a ton of $$ to find replacement parts....keep the evo unless you have a daily and want a project car

On one hand, you have a MINT new-to-you evo and on the other...how many people can say they've owned a GTR?

Yes it is, otherwise that same acquaintance wouldn't have received a letter telling him to turn over his R32 (which was actually registered in Florida and had Florida license plates, like the rest of them), hired a lawyer and stashed the car. All of the Skyline GT-Rs are pretty much under fire.
