Update from my Car Accident!

Ok, so many of you know about my car getting hit by some girl driving a Blazer. It took awhile for her insurance company to start budging on giving me a rental car (Kia soul!). After they gave me the rental car, I kept bugging her insurance company about my car getting fixed. Finally! They told me a check in the mail for $4,900 was coming in the mail to me.

I plan on taking the check and bringing it to a Body Shop to get repairs. Now the only thing I have to do is find an amazing trustworthy Shop, oh and wait for my check of course >.<

hopifully you can get damage fix and car repainted after all that have some money left over then you might be able to do a turbo upgrade and tune with left overs.

I dont know where you are but Fogg's Auto Body in Colorado Springs is the only place I will ever go. Between myself and family and friends I've had personal interest in 18 repairs they have done over the last 30 years and it has always been perfect. They repair things for dealers that have in house body shops when they cant get it right. Things like recreating factory overspray and matching the orange peel of the paint on the rest of the car. Good luck!

You need to demand more money before that check is cashed. No way they forked over the full amount the first go around. When you get to a body shop let them know you have the check and they will tear down the car and give a real estimate then go back to the insurance company for the rest. It will be more money to fix it right.

Are you on Coloradoevo.com? If not you should as this is where we all hang out.

Also I was rear ended a few yrs ago and took my car to Hanks Autobody. They have two locations. They are by far the best and offere lifetime warranty on any of the work they do.

I hope you didn't screw yourself by getting money up front without a reputable shop doing a check. Usually this is how this is done, you bring the car to the shop to have them look at it. They call the your insurance aganecy, they call the person that hit you insurance then they send the check.

They just send an adjuster out to inspect the damages, then a couple days after, he talked to the insurance company to make sure he could send the check. You really think I should ask for more money?

All I know or what I have heard from, is that I take the check they give me to the shop I intend on getting the repair and they will fix it. If it costs more, the shop will talk to the insurance company to make them pay.... Im a little confused on this, since I have never been in a situation like this before

YEP YOU MOST DEFINITELY NEED TO GET MORE MONEY....Just went through the same process myself..Adjustor came out looked at the car and sent a check for $2900....Car has been at the body shop about 3 weeks now..and the actual damages are more in the $6,000-$7,000 range......

Ya, but even though your damages are more than your check, the insurance company will have to fork more out to cover it. Please correct me if im wrong on that one.

From my understanding, based on a recent interaction with my insurance company, once you turn your car over to the shop they can call the insurance company to re-negotiate the value of the repairs.

Correct.....for example..on mine...the adjustor did not account for any frame repair and only repair of the rear body panel....whereas it actually needed replaced...key is to find a shop that isnt going to take any shortcuts to save money, but one who will do the job right...

Well, Now my car is making an odd squealing noise is coming from the engine bay, while I was taking it to a repair shop. It seems to me that the shops only fix the body and they don't care about the mechanics of the car.

Anyone have suggestions on what to do? I was looking up a Collision/mechanic place and found one, which was Phil long Ford/Mitsubishi over here. they told me they would fix it and send it to the mechanic to make sure everything is running okay. Everything sounded great, but when I looked at reviews from the past 4 years, There was nothing but bad about them. Please help, this is such a huge headache.

BEFORE dropping the car off, make sure both parties are in contact and aware (body shop and insurance company).

I've seen a few cases where the insurance company claimed that once you cashed the check, you accepted that as a full payment as "settlement" and refused to fork over any more money.

Once you get in touch with both companies and the insurance company agrees to cover the costs for any repairs over the estimated amount, you are in the clear.

You are within every right to specify what shop you want the car to go to. Tell them what place you want the mechanical repairs done and they should allow it to be taken care of. Again, follow the same steps for the post I just quoted. Body work alone can get pretty expensive, throw in mechanical repairs and it's a different ball game. Just make sure you notify her insurance company as well.

You have every right to get your car running a 100 percent like it was previous to the accident. Her insurance company is completely responsible for making sure that happens. In the mean time, I would also suggest contacting your insurance company as well. They will be able to assist and help you with anything you need. Whenever I've had an accident where someone else was at fault, I've always just had my insurance company work everything out.
