EVO 9 MR Weaknesses

I am painfully aware of the finicky clutch and weak transmission. What other little surprises do I have in store for me?

The clutch is the same one that's in the other version Evo's. Transmission is only weak if you really beat the living pee out of the car for long periods of time in 4th gear

No beating yet...must be the reason I'm the "new" owner. The tranny and transfer case are leaking and I'm having all the seals replaced if the transfer case comes back negative for no cracks.

No other weaknesses?

the only weakness I'm aware of is the 6 speed...and I haven't had a problem with that despite tracking my car.

Are the synchros gears good in the MR's? I know they are pretty shady in the VIII's like my car, grinding 5th about 50% of the time and 2nd probably 10% (only if I shift into it hard or quick) but since I grandma DD this car I think I should be OK for quite a while!

The 6-spd transmission is quite weak, and launches or extended road racing at decent power will blow it up. At 400+ whp you will need a new clutch anyway.

I've got the clutch taken care of....ACT Street with resurfaced flywheel. I do intend on road racing the car and getting the car to around 400whp via E85. I'm thinking about converting to a five speed eventually but it's not in the cards just yet.

Are there any suggestions for things to "beef" up on other than already mentioned for road racing? End links, tranny cooler, etc??

Is it cost effective to run my 6 speed in the ground (some road courses) and swap to a five speed? I could hold out and chance someone selling a 5 speed and have it rebuilt and installed. Or, just get a new 5 speed $$$.

If the tranny and clutch are the only real weaknesses I'll call it a win. My wife may disagree but thats for me to deal with....LMAO

I blew up 6-spd road racing and swapped a 5-spd Shep trans in... one of the best mods I've done on the car. I freaking love the Shep 5-spd.

What did it cost you parts and install if you don't mind me asking?
