It's hard to say in my case because I wasn't the original owner. I'm pretty sure the previous owner was street racing it as the factory clutch, struts and half the rest of the car needed to be replaced when I got the car. I do know that a weekend of road racing my 6-spd which had not previously shown any problems blew out 4th... the collar between 3rd-4th actually. While its possible the previous owner abused it... I never launched the car or mis-shifted etc before it went, and that was with way less than 400 wtq.

In any case, my personal opinion is that the 5th is so much better than the 6-spd if you have any long term plans of doing more than daily driving the car, you should probably do the swap. I do agree, if you can sell the 6-spd in working order to fund the 5-spd swap you are much better off.

Yeah, the setup John recommended for me was ShepTrans Stage 2, 6 spd conversion kit, and REM/ISF coating with Evo IX 1st/5th & Evo VIII 3rd/4th gears. Eventually I'll be getting a Shep transfer case as well.

It has nothing to do with performance whatsoever, but the finish on the evo is the worst paint I've ever seen on a car. It's paper thin and practically chips when an insect hits it.

Can you elaborate on what this does specifically? I get the 3100rpms at 80mph but the rest is French. LOL

Good input. I intended this to be an all inclusive "**** list" so to speak. However, I am enjoying all the input with regards to the transmission.

This is the same setup I got, the 2nd gear is shared between the VIII/IX... IX 1st/5th, and VIII 3rd/4th. Works brilliantly for road racing.

its so oposite for subaru owners.

6 speed is so much better for bug eye owners than the 5 speed lol
