Carpet My Empty Trunk
Carpet My Empty Trunk
So I’ve removed my spare tire and tools I would like to re-carpet the trunk area. Does anyone know where to get some universal carpet that I can heat and/or form around the sheet metal? I did several searches but couldn’t find anything.
Yea, take a piece of threaded rod weld a small plate on top, screw it in the spare tire holder lay oem carpet and board down and go about your way. I have even used a piece of styrofoam to fill the void.
I don't want to add extra wood, I would just like to buy some carpet that can be molded to shape (probably cheaper than the oem trunk, since I don't have my old one)
Does anyone know where I can buy that kind of a material?

Dynamat? But I'm pretty sure thats way heavy...
I assume you're just doing this because you want it to look nice? Because really "anything" is "carpet"... like... just grab some carpet pads and cut them to fit, carpet glue them in place (or affix as you see fit), and then put like some curtain over it or something... since it will be more flexible than regular carpet and will surely be light.
Just my thoughts on that I guess... I'd probably just use the stock carpet over a tray though.

What about the light outdoor carpet some people use on their patios.

This stuff might be a bit thick, but I know they make some really thin stuff. The thin stuff should be easy to mold and you should only need the carpet tape to hold it.

This stuff might work.

Maybe need to investigate it a bit more.

I guarantee you, a 16oz can of bed liner from duplicolor will not be heavier than any carpet or sound deadening material you get..... Plus the stuff is solid, for an aerosol, I've used it to coat many auto parts, and it's still holding up.
That being said, dynamat, or something similar, will do a better job of deadening the sounds and vibrations, but they will be heavier.
AFAIK, there is no such thing as "mold-able" carpet.
PS. I noticed you're in west Bloomfield. Michigan? If so, you ever cruise down woodward, I've seen a couple of evos there, but it's mostly a subie/srt-4 party.
