FWIW when I sold my old car the carfax said there was odometer inconsistency or something like that and I was the only owner of the car and I know I didnt touch it. Sometimes things like that really are a mistake but I think dealing with a car like the evo, mileage probably wouldnt be #1 on my priority list. Even if the car really did only have 34k miles you never know what kind of miles they were, hell, the guy could have autox'd for 30k miles.

Rarely do you get a great deal but they do happen

They did. My buddy has an 05 8 MR with SSL and he didn't even know it. The previous owner swapped out the 6 speed for a 5 speed. Other then that, his VIN and records show it's an MR with SSL.

 

I'd like to see a window sticker to back that up, if possible. Otherwise I don't believe it, MR's with SSL do not exist. Sure plenty have swapped out the 6spd for the 5spd. As well as switching to a full leather interior from a SSL. If he has all the things a SSL has, sunroof, infinity speakers, head unit, sub and amp, and leather interior. Then it has got to be a GSR with SSL. Previous owner may have jerked your buddy?

 

all MRs came with an aluminum roof... none came with a sunroof'ed steel hood... too many stories of people thinking they have some rare oddball evo...but they didnt.. just bought a car that others butchered and swapped all sorts of parts from other cars.....

most wouldnt think mine was an RS because it has many GSR parts and power windows and mirrors.. but it is

Your first problem is looking at craigslist since it's been nothing a hotbed of scammers for the past, at least, three years.

No offense, but a big LOL to actually thinking that the VIII MR came with SSL. This isn't Japan where there was a truckload of options like you could've gotten an RS with the six speed, Bilsteins, and BBS rims, any color you wanted, and have it called the Evolution VIII RS MR otherwise, my IX MR would've been in electric blue.

 

You know what it's worth. You know what he's asking. Go look and drive it, tally up anything that could be an issue and see where you stand. If you pay to have you cars worked on you may want to run. If you DYI it may be a great deal.
