Looking for a little advice from yall. Have $15K I can put in my '06 MR and I want all of it focused on engine upgrades. What would you get and what HP would you expect? Also looking to do more maybe down the line so Ill be leaving room for further upgrades. Any advice would be really helpful.

Well you can do a built 2.0 and a nice turbo setup, but what good is all the new power if you cant control it!

FP Red, cams, basic bolt-ons, gauges, coilovers, clutch/flywheel, wheels/tires. You should have some money left over after all that.

this is the second time i have seen a thread like this. ill say this: yes you can make silly power in the evo esp if your budget is 15k (which after a full engine build really isnt that much).

but like someone else said, whats the point if you cant drive or cant make full use of it. too much power will toast tires, stock brakes, clutch/flywheel, it will handle like crap on stock suspension.

take a step back and think about it, esp if your going to do more mods down the line. start with a built engine, big turbo, leave room to grow, match it with quality brakes, good tires, properly valved coils, and send it to someone you trust to put it all together like a giant puzzle.

gl with your build and safe travels back home

Im at Umm Qasar Im a contractor here. Already have Dunlop Z1s so the tires are taken care of and plan to go with a 2.3, 5 speed conversion, KWV 3's and exedy triple clutch. Was thinking about the GTX 35R turbo but Im hearing mixed reviews on it $4k isnt worth mixed reviews. Plan originally was for 700 HP all the bells and whistles but was gonna run $35K which is too damn much for me right now. So Id rather put up what I have now and if I want to add on in the future. Just asking so that I can get the most bang for my buck.

I think you'd better serve yourself if you have a goal and shoot for it. While "700 HP" is a goal, a better way to approach this is to understand what you ultimately have planned for the car. dyno queen/highway pulls, drag monster, road racing circuit or something smaller like autox, etc.

Also, where are you located when you hit stateside? If you have quality tuneing options/strong community, and good fuel options like ethanol or race gas available to you, that will certainly help your cause. Once you know your ultimate goal, stage yourself getting there with your budget and see where the line has to be drawn.

Unfortunately it sounds like you have a 6-spd. As much as I loved my 6-spd, you will likely have issues down the line at that power level. You can go with a stronger 6, or go the 5-spd conversion route. Neither will necessarily help you go quicker, but they will certainly help keep you going.

Best of luck with everything!

Do it once and do it right. If you know that you want big power in the end stick to buying things that you can carry over. I would recommend a custom 2.3 engine that you can rev to 10k rpms from a shop out here in socal called total performance. The bottom end will run you about $6k but that will serve as a great engine for whatever you do. From there, get a 5 spd tranny in good condition. You can buy a stock one for about $2k and pay $750 to have it freshened up. If you won't be dragging the car, stick with a stock tcase...even for higher horsepower. Upgrade your fuel system with id2000 injectors and a double jumper for $1500 and buy a qm 8 leg twin clutch for $1800. Right there you will be at about $15k installed and when you save up more you can do the turbokit, suspension, and brakes.

You should build a 4g64 with S2's, port your head and thrown on a ported Fp Green . You'd make good power and great torque, but more importantly you'd spool up mighty quick. People are making mid 400's with a 4g64 and a IX turbo, matched by ridiculous torque numbers.

If you have 15K sto spend, then you better be doing all the work yourself. I say this because if you're having a builder builds it (Buschur, STM, AWD....etc) you'll be looking at more the 15K for a FULL build.

Don't get me wrong though, 15 will get you a TON of stuff. Just saying a triple plate clutch is 1800, trans is 3000, upgraded T-Case is 2500-3500, short block is 3500 (these are all approximations) it adds up quick. Fuel system, suspension, new belts, gaskets.....

Be fore warned lol

thank you for the extra info. Ultimately, like an above poster said, you need to have a goal. Whether you reach it in the 15k or not is debateable depending on what it is, you need to know what you are working for.

Do you track the car? Do you plan on tracking the car? Are you planning on running pump gas? Is this cali crap pump gas or normal states? E85? Where are you located? Having someone build the entire car for you? If 700whp is your goal, plus all the other stuff you will need, your going to be far short with 15k.

Rough examples to add on the above.

Engine+turbo assembled: 8k (quality parts)
Fuel system (double pumper, injectors, fuel lines/rail etc): 1k+
Coilovers: 3k+
Wheels and tires: Taken care of
Brakes: Rotors, Calipers, Lines, Fluid, pads: 3k
Built 5 spd: 3k
T-case/diff ? going to do it? another 2k+

Already at 20k not including misc things such as fluid, tuning, install etc.

This is a way to broad topic. Need to know:
- Fuel
- Track yes or no
- DD or do you have another car
- HP goal
- Well built all around car or simply dyno queen
- Location
- Yourself or builder

I am going through this same thing with another member now. I am absolutely no expert in this whatsoever, but if you want feel free to PM me and we can chat about different directions I have taken, you can take etc.
