evo quality & service vs subaru quality and service
I own a evo, and best friend owns sti (more of a brother then friend), well of a week we traded rides. I have to say it was nice living wit the sti for a week, but I kinda missed that turbo kick. one thing i notice though is the sti quality of feel and well it's hard to describe when u look at the sti u can see the high quality parts, paint, and such that were used. Then I went to the subaru dealership for oil change and man, the service I got there was really good, almost made me buy a sti. The sti is softer in the corners but i wasen't afarid to push it. But I love my evo for one reason. It's a really fun car to drive and I missed throwing it into corners, whereas I had to take turns in the sti. Man I wish mitsu would use better quality parts. at least in their flagship car
I'm just wondering what others think of my comparsion. and If it was accurate.

I have a friend who drives an STi as well and he says that performing maintenance on his Subaru is a lot easier than working on a Mitsubishi. I've only worked on my car so I can't say one way or the other.
I have a 02 WRX and a 03 Evo. Quality wise, the cars are equal. Actually my Evo feels tighter but that may be because it has 4k miles as opposed to 13k on the WRX. The doors on the Subarus sound very sloppy when you shut them because they have those frameless windows.
Both Subaru and Mitsubishi HATE and often REFUSE to honor warranty issues on these cars, or so I have been told (countless 100s of threads here and on NASIOC about dealer/warranty nightmares).
Neither of my cars has ever been back to the dealer since I bought it. I treat my cars correct, and don't try to impress the world by thrashing my cars out.
In my case these cars and car companies are equal.

p.s. Congrats on living in Kennesaw, with an extremely intelligent law supporting the Constitution and article 2 in particular.

the both suck when it comes to honoring warrany issues like stated above. i must say this though i like my evo more than the WRX.... thanks just my opinion...
Edge to Mitsu
I owned a very highly modified wrx (330whp) and spent a decent amount of time working on the car....When I bought the EVO I was worried about the **** build quality reputation of Mitsu....So far I've been very pleasantly surprised and would give the edge to Mitsu when comparing to my WRX and the STi's I've driven and looked over. I'm most disappointed with the paint quality on both cars - really bad.
Suby service experience was average - I've had just as good at a Ford dealership....Mitsu will only see my car in a dire emergency.
Now if you really want to see a **** product - Look at American "sports" cars. F'ing Horrible! For the money the EVO is a great product, even from the fit and finish stand point.

honestly im almost ready to buy the evo for this reason amongst others:
The doors on the Subarus sound very sloppy when you shut them because they have those frameless windows.
likethat solid door feel and the rear wiper too..

Not exactly...
...I had a 2002 WRX (leased on June 2001), for 24 months, from Subaru in Pompano Beach, FL.
...Then, on June 2003, I returned it and *purchased* my EVO from what seems to be the #1 (Triple Diamond status) mitsu. dealer in America, as rated by MMC (Coconut Creek Mitsubishi)
.
The difference between the WRX and EVO is significant, both in workmanship and service.
In the service arena, the improvement at Coconut Creek vs. Eddie Accardi is *night-vs.-day*. Coconut Creek infrastructure and service team management are *exceptional* if you consider the category/league that Mitsu. belongs to. ALL MY MODS have been APPROVED and INSTALLED by this dealer, and the work has been exclusively performed by the EVO-certified techs (there are two of them who went to the "Mitsu" school, specifically for the EVO). {
}
In the workmanship arena, the EVO's paint is surprisingly and clearly better than that of the WRX, and both cars were/are the same color (mind you). The WRX seemed to retain stains (of all kind) faster/deeper than the EVO's paint, which is immaculate, up to know.
Mechanically, the WRX did not give me any trouble whatsoever, but I never modified/changed anything on it, because it was leased. It did lose the alignment and balance on the tires after 12 months of operation (with excellent roads) and was never able to recover it satisfactorily.
However, the EVO has now gone through its first replacement of rotors (covered by Mitsu.) and rust-removal in the back bumper beam support (
), which should not be the case, especially since I drive the car easy, at the highway and no racing at tracks. Nevertheless, the EVO has gear and equipment that puts it in a different performance and maintenance league, when compared to the WRX.
Interior-wise (suprise), the EVO looks as good and feels stronger/tighter than the WRX. And yes, the integrated window frames make a big difference in noise and quietness, when compared to the unframed windows in the WRX.
Just my two cents.

I drove my best friend STI for one week i thought its the same cheap as the EVO. We think its not but if you look closly at the metrial its the same, its just more shiny and softer to the touch. Both cars are fast and nice. I dunno why people complain about inetrior quality (remember its a rally car and you have to make it light) if you want fast and quality build buy a GTI R32. good luck
