I feel inclined to comment- even though Robert and I agree to stay out of each other's threads-

you guys are missing a few details- it takes many components to build these stock housing turbos, and lots of volume to keep up with market demand-

That means alot of production of custom parts (compressors, turbines, bearings etc)... also any part from MHI has gone up SIGNIFICANTLY recently because they have basically decided they want to be an OE supplier-

the plain and simple- the ball bearing setup is expensive-

Im sure robert would be able to justify this to those questioning the price increase- but I see (from our side) technological advancement costs (the bb package and testing/development time that occured) and parts from MHI or suppliers (that considering they are made in japan and the events that even happened there this year) increasing-

I think the upgrade is the best thing to do. Buying one brand new cost alot without the upgrade. Its way better then paying $2k+ IMO.
Holy **** I need this!

You obviously don't work with manufactures in China (or Mexico) on a daily basis then, otherwise you wouldn't say that.

That's for the original Black with the Journal Bearing, not the new Black with DBB. They no longer will upgrade stock IX turbo's since they have nothing in common anymore.

"Forced Performance is working to put together a list of pricing and upgrade options for the rest of
our Lancer Evolution 4-9 line of stock frame turbochargers. Once New Turbo Production
schedules are secured we will announce these prices and options for purchasing new Ball
Bearing CHRA to fit into earlier turbochargers. There is no date scheduled for this release at this
time."

Now Mexico is a whole different story!... I have gotten some transformers that were magically in spec from Mexico despite the previous day's testing results coming back out of spec (more than likely GE skewing the results with more favorable environmental conditions as rewinding the transformers would take a while) and some transformers from the good ol U S of A that were leaking excessive amounts of transformer oil from the flange welds (square flanges... the hell!). I have also gotten some relative bull**** from Canada because they didn't want to spend the money to do inspections and quality control.

We try to specify US made products when we buy them but at the end of the day what really matters for quality products is the experience of the quality control and inspectors.

I completely agree with you, lol. My post may have been typed in a weird way as to insinuate that I was saying and Evo and RSX are right next to each other in comparison. That is far from what I'm saying. I'm saying that if you classify cars in the sense of "super car", "high power car", "econo car", etc...I was wrong and the other guy was wrong, by far.

The RX-7, RSX/TSX and the like don't even come CLOSE to the NSX. I don't know much about the Supra TT in terms of stock power etc...but it would seem to me that it would at least come closer to the NSX than those other ones. Taking the Evo into consideration - it is far above the "econo" cars such as Camry or Civic, but also doesn't come close to the status of the NSX.

Therefore, in my opinion, cars like the Evo, turbo WRX, Sti etc...make up a class of their own, the step above their econo "counterparts" like Lancer, 2.5i and whatever. I would place the RX-7 in that class as well, along with the Eclipse GSX AWD turbo and Talon Tsi, but that's just me. RSX and TSX compare to the econo cars - Even the Civic Si (to me) is considered an econo car, regardless of the fact it's a 6 speed, 200hp blah blah blah. I work with them all day 6 days a week, 40+ hours a day (work at Honda). They are NOTHING special. Just like the RSX. TSX is an RSX and TL mixed - "econo luxury car", lol.

Correct me if I'm wrong or whatever but those are my opinions and how I view the cars.

Sorry for the off topic-ness - I am done now!

On topic - I think that if I had the money for a good turbo and had to be aware that the law will be monitoring such things as aftermarket turbos, I would definitely shell out the cash for a good turbo. I live in a state where nothing is monitored, so I have no need to worry what-so-ever. Unfortunately I am poor, so my set up will be a stock IX turbo set up on my VIII and a few minor supporting mods, followed by e85.

If you believe that FP is charging too much, then don't buy the turbo. I am pretty sure FP realizes there are many other choices as far as upgraded turbos. That is beauty of having choices....not all of them may be right for you. There is no need to bash a vendor because of their pricing. Let the market decide if its too much. Oh, I am pretty sure FP knows this as well.

Do you honestly think Robert would have spent his own time and money on something that there was no interest for? Yes his time and "money" was spent on this as the CHRA is a completely new ground up design by Robert...

No need to bash price, if you can't afford it or don't wanna pay for it, there are other options that you can choose...

How is the rx7 and supra not on the Nsx's level? Because it was stupid expensive before it stopped production.

Wrx-------->STi
RSX/Integra---------> Type-R(I know we didn't get it here)
Civic------->Type-R (I know we didn't get it here)
Lancer--------->Evo

Get my point. I love my car. I don't think it's a pile but I also know that owning one doesn't make other people who choose to hop up civics, 240s, accords, integra's etc lesser then. Some of the elitist attitudes on here make me laugh. I know this is way off topic so we can take it to PM's or if someone feels strongly enough they can start a new thread.

I think we are so spoiled having all these options. Seriously. Tere is damn near a turbo for every situation. Stock frame turbos serve a purpose to a point.

i understand that there seems to be alot that goes into a DBB turbo as compared to a journal bearing but i bought an fp black, and of course did the whole bells and whistles as far as coating the hotside porting and all that good stuff, so there's like 2200 or so give or take, then to upgrade to a DBB black from what i've read it would be 1299 dollars! thats insane, yes you guys are right i don't have to buy one i can stay with my journal bearing black, but what I'm thinking from a business stand-point take a 100 owners of the JB black and consider for just a second that to upgrade their old blacks to a DBB black were 500 bucks and with all the bells and whistles(porting coating etc) lets say 650-700 bucks in total, remember its just a scenerio, Im willing to bet over 75 of those owners of the original JB blacks would be in like sin.

Now take the current price for an upgrade from an original JB black to a DBB black for 1299 dolars and think about those 100 owners of the blacks and im willing to bet you might get 10-15 of them that would upgrade. In the end its simple business, I'm not saying the DBB black isn't worth 2500 all im saying is if your already an fp black owner then Robert should know he got 2k out of you already, how about cutting us older black owners a better deal on the new one? otherwise i'll just stay with what i got, a bit faster spool and a couple other perks just aren't worth 1299. but hey thats just my .02

I still cant believe the amount of people here trying to explain to me just why the turbo's are more expensive. "R&D costs money blah blah blah"

Really? NO WAI!

I can spend the same money and have a superior product. So, to keep things very simple with that statement, $2500 is too much for a stock frame turbo. In MY opinion.

To the guy complaining about having a POS ralliart: Sorry your life sucks and a turbo kit for a non turbo car cost $4000+.

To the people saying that the upgrade fee's are very reasonable from FP: Good luck waiting 3 months for a turbo while your car sits in the garage collecting dust.

K thanks.

Yeah not worth it when you can go GT series turbo, becoming too proud of their product!

Ball bearing center sections are created on a mill. Sorry.

You guys act like FP is printing money, they're not. I guarantee they've spent a ton of money rebuilding turbo's under warranty and that the ball bearing program cost a lot of money initially and also costs a lot of money to upgrade each unit. Please also consider that they aren't just bolting and balancing new wheels and machining a compressor housing, they are completely modifying a custom BB center section.

I'm done here.
I said something about a bb center section in my reply? I was talking about the wheels and the jb setup. Its a 62mm billet wheel on all factory mitsu parts with a larger casted cover. Those are all created on a mill, and at a foundry. The bb unit im glad he came up with something so complex that its never been introduced into the turbo market before lol.

I applaud him of his efforts, awesome turbos but people dont do stuff like this to make 10 bucks a turbo, like I said hes atleast 300% markup on this stuff and kudos to him. Wish I was smart enough first enough.

Nope just pointing out the fact that someone made it out like they are barely scraping by with their upgraded turbos.
