E85 Question

For those running E85 and have done the tail pipe emissions test, how does it work? Does the smog inspection proceed as normal? Does it run really clean compared to regular gasoline?

Thanks for the info.

The unburned hydrocarbons test would obviously be wonderful on e85 since you start with only 15% of what a gasoline engine would. I'm not sure about the other chemicals they check for though. I think I remember hearing about some people being able to pass tail pipe tests without cats on E85 though.

They check for HC, CO, and NO.

My main question is will the car smog just like a regular gasoline car.

I have a RRE Rally cat and everytime I smog, I put on the stock cat, drive it around for a week (to recalibrate the numbers in the computer) and then smog it on E85. The emissions are almost as clean as a Toyota Prius! LOL

e85 burns a whopping 0.5% cleaner than gasoline... It's way over hyped for "lower emissions".

hmmmm..........

So E85 is not really that much cleaner. I thought it would be at least 70% cleaner and can pass without a cat.

Not a big enough difference to even be mentioned. Only advantage to running corn is cheap 100 octane.
