Quartermaster Twin 8 leg
Quartermaster Twin 8 leg
I'm in the market for a new clutch, just wondering if anyone has any experience with the new QM twin 8 leg. Is the life of it worth buying it. I was also thinking about the Exedy twin but a lot of them fail where I live. Can you guys please help me choose a clutch. This will be going on a car making 450-500max torque.
It's great for the price. You can get an Exedy twin for a few hundred cheaper, like the other half of evo owners, but I've owned both. The Exedy was good, but the new 8 leg is great. Holds 673 ft/lbs so far, shifting is great cause it grabs well, but I give most of the credit to the shep transmission. I've had the clutch for 4300mi now with drag passes and daily commute! Do it right the first time. Also would recommend Motul Gear 300 for tranny fluid. Best combo I've had.
Exedy twin is a proven clutch. I have never heard of one failing due to the actual part being a problem (excpet the throw out bearing clip, but there is a fix for that, so if that happens, its the operators fault)
i have seen them fail due to abuse, improper installation and improper clutch adjustment though, but that will kill any clutch, none of them are unbreakable
Not saying the quaternaster isnt good, but not many people have it yet since its fairly new

I've had my 8 leg twin for about a year now...fantastic clutch. It grips like a son of a ***** and made shifting absolutely buttery at every RPM.
The ONLY downside to this clutch is that it is a monster for the street. It does squeak from a first gear engagement and it is very very touchy to get going, but the pedal pressure isnt much worse than stock. I dont mind having race car qualities for a street car, but the clutch is borderline.
I say get it if you can deal with the aggressiveness.
I can also post up pics of it from my install if you'd like.

be careful with the exedy twin. i have the HD, and was great for a good long while. BUT, now it's having issues with 1st/reverse due to a problem with the clutch

Great clutch, but you need to prep it properly before you install it. Mine wasn't prepped.

Since your trans is at Shep, Ask John or Trevor what they think of the QM 8 Leg and make your desicion based off of that. I've had several discussions with them on this clutch
