Sorry to hear. But at least you're alive. Can't put a price on your life.

Sorry to hear man, I feel your pain. It seems like they’re giving you a fair price, just check on Kelley Blue Book to make sure and try and push them for a little more. Hopefully you automobile insurance quotes won’t rise too much as a result of this.

Thats an awful way to start the holidays, but I think the 18k sounds like a deal. I have seen several 9's around lately that have low miles going for 17-21k so why not star fresh rather then rebuilding and having to worry that something you missed might fail.

I never expected the carnage of the car when I stepped out. It was beat to hell. Sure enough insurance came and took a look at it. The guy stopped adding it all up once he hit $20k worth of damage and called it a total loss.

So, I have never totaled a car before or even filed an insurance claim. My insurance offered me $18,428 for my Evo 8 MR with 89,012 miles. Is this a good deal?
That sucks a lot man. Even though your car didn't make it I'm glad you're okay. Its amazing how much some whiplash or a banged up shoulder / knee can eff up the rest of your year, and maybe your whole life. And of course you're not dead, thats a big plus.

I've been in a similar situation to yours. Except I was in the left lane and some ***** in an SUV cut me off bad from the right lane. I jerked the steering wheel left and then to avoid the concrete center divider back right, and repeated that a couple times with my car fish tailing. Between the sandy shoulder lane and the dry left lane the huge difference in grip made it hard to recover and I spun out towards the barrier. I just stood on the brakes as a last resort as my car was spinning back first into the barrier and I think I stopped 1 ft short. I learned a valuable lesson, evos have lift throttle oversteer! Like a fwd car. In a slide you need to maintain throttle or the *** end swings around. Also the poor turning circle doesn't help when catching slides at a big angle.

And unfortunately I don't think you will find a CLEAN 05+ (ACD ftw) for what the insurance is offering. I think you would need something like 22 to 26k for that. What is the price to buy your car back from them? You can part out almost every last bit of the car to make the money.

Thanks a lot for everyone's kind words, I really appreciate it guys. I was never expecting this much comradery from strangers.

The most I could haggle from my insurance company was $18,798 - these guys do NOT want to budge. They keep telling me how fair it is.

I recently totaled an almost new car (not an EVO) and I got about 70 percent of what the sale price was for it. I was truly ripped off by the insurance company. But what are you going to do? You can't take them to court cause they have more money than us!

Glad you walked away from the crash. Good luck on your next build.

These cars are worth more than KBB pricing especially if you have mods. You should get $22k min. KBB is over $20k. You need to negotiate a better price. I got $17,800 for my 03 with 94k.
