After 6 wonderful years, Evo is totaled

I got the 05 MR brand new and it was the longest I ever kept a car. I honestly was never going to sell it.

I was in the left lane and someone was in the right lane on a three lane highway. We both tried getting into the middle lane and I noticed the guy, so I pulled back into my lane. I must have jerked the steering wheel too fast since the car started fishtailing and spun out into the center divider.

I never expected the carnage of the car when I stepped out. It was beat to hell. Sure enough insurance came and took a look at it. The guy stopped adding it all up once he hit $20k worth of damage and called it a total loss.

So, I have never totaled a car before or even filed an insurance claim. My insurance offered me $18,428 for my Evo 8 MR with 89,012 miles. Is this a good deal?

PICS

Hope you are ok. Sorry to hear about your loss, but the car can be replaced. You can either part it out or take the $$$. I would take the 18k it seems reasonable to me.

Me and my girlfriend walked away from it all - just a bit bruised. Of course cops showed up within minutes. They were kind enough to not give me only one DUI test, but THREE. Of course I passed them all - but really, three? When I got out of the car the first thing the cop said to me was "you look like you're going to cry!? What are you hiding, you have been drinking haven't you!" Then accused me of drinking for the next half hour.

My insurance told me that IL state law - you can not buy the car back if it has less than 9 years on it. I never heard of this

Man that sucks dude sorry to hear. Good side of it though is def buy the car back, find yourself another and transfer everything that didn't get hurt back to the new car. Then you can part out everything else part wise that is still good. Trust me you will want to do that being you will make more then your money back.

Oh and another crazy thing is that we hit the barricade going probably 40-50 mph and the airbags did not deploy. I thought that was odd.

You posted before I got mine off. That does suck *****. I would try to see what else you can do. Check into it with other insurance companys and ask them about it. If they say the same thing mannnn that sucks.

That was the first thing I asked before they even looked at the car - had a feeling it was done for. It's even stranger because I know shops that fix totaled cars around us ALL the time - and these things are less than a year old.

Before I forget:
Thank you to everyone, you guys are very helpful even though I don't know any of you. Have a happy and SAFE Thanksgiving!!!

Rough story man, I guess a lot of people have accident stories. It's always a miracle if you can walk away from it all. Glad to hear you are ok.

And yes insurance can give you the cash value of a car you lose.

$18.5 k isn't bad...i'd take it. i rather have the car totaled than having it come near totaling and worrying about having it fixed right.

3 DUI tests? your name ends in a -ski? niestety tak jest. good to hear everyone is ok.

I guess the factor is this. What is the kbb for the car in poor condition. I mean 18k isn't bad but 18k turns into alot more if he were able to part it out and use the money on his new car.
