Why is there such a need to 'lighten' it to get near the weight of the evo? I wouldnt go with a cobra unless it were 03-04.

If you're pretty good at doing your own labor and are good at sourcing parts it's pretty easy to swap a stock eaton in an 01/99. Just be patient and wait for an 03 guy going turbo and trade him some parts. I think most guys will make around 400-450 depending on pulley size obviously. But with stock pulley size you will make a little more than a stock cobra due to higher compression.....The stock mod motor out of the 01 isnt quite as durable as the evo engine. thats about as far as you can push it. The evo can be taken farther per $ than the 01 cobra.

Just some food for thought. and imo you cant go wrong with either one.... but you could prolly pick up an 03 for 15k.

Thanks for the opinions guys it's not too late to do anything plus I found this car for a pretty good deal. So maybe I'll trade it in in march for my birthday or something.

Sold my first TB Evo 9 for a 04 Mustang Cobra. Had the Cobra for about 3 months sold it for another Evo. As stated if i were going to get another cobra it would be the 03-04 again. But honestly theres a reason why i went back to the Evo. AWD and Turbo is more fun and better for street use. All i did in the Cobra was spin and I had a few bolt ons. Cobra was quick but no where near my Evo's level and it was on bolts ons as well with the stock turbo.

I have never driven or been in the 01 Cobra but i would find your self a clean 8 or 9. I think overall you will like it a lot better GL man, just my 02.

They aren't even remotely comparable cars.

My advice to you is to sit down, figure out what you want in a car, and then pick a platform that fits those wants/needs. . . This is like saying "I want a sick offroad vehicle, but I found a really sick ferrari"

That's crazy. 300 pounds makes a difference but not enough for 100hp more. The Evo will take the launch but the cobra will end up running it down!

What... 5 miles down the road? Yeah an 03-04 Cobra will run a stock Evo down, but previous cobra's will start pulling on a stock Evo after 140mph..

I'm gonna have to disagree. No 01 Cobra will ever run me down. If your a real driver this should be a no brainer. If your a profiler that wants everyone to know what you have and you want to some what impress old guys, you wanna just be another person with a blah Ford Mustang, go for it. The only one I'd consider is an 03 and even then, BLAH. Boring car. Yes high HP but that really doesn't mean anything but the car will be undriveable in the rain snow etc. And it won't handle for s**t. The Evo becomes part of you when you drive. It becomes an extension of your own body. It'll do whatever you can handle. No Cobra will give you that

Profiler=Cobra
Drivers car=Evo
