Evo 8 vs 01 Cobra

Ok so I havent been here in awhile. I just sold my lancer and I was looking for an evo at the time, but everyone kept over pricing them and I refuse to pay so much for an evo with 100k miles.

So I found an 01 cobra mustang for 12K with 60k miles on it

Well I studied hard about the cobra and there is a 320 pound difference between the two cars. I can lighten the cobra for about 2k and get it close to evo weight with increase hp as well just bare motor.

Has anyone seen what a cobra can do against an evo? Should I get an 03 Evo 8 or should I keep the cobra lighten it and procharge it?

I never owned an evo so I look to yall for advice please help! I only want to stay in the 500hp range.

Why is there such a need to 'lighten' it to get near the weight of the evo? I wouldnt go with a cobra unless it were 03-04.

I've driven a couple cobras and was never impressed. I've driven lists of cars and none were as fun and easy as the Evo to drive!

aparently the issue is cobras are heavy, so if I lighten the car by 300 lbs and Procharge it I would see a big difference in power. I spoke to kevin D and he said a 350 hp evo should beat a cobra up 400-450hp due to the weight thats why I asked

If you get a cobra get the 03-04 supercharged version... otherwise just get an evo. Way easier to drive and way more fun. Plus... having traction in 1st gear is awesome

yea rather than procharge an 01 I would just get an 03-04 cobra..much better platform IMO. but if your looking at the 12k price range plus a couple grand in mods I would just find an evo for that price and chances are it will be modded anyway and will still probably beat a lightly modded 01 cobra

Evo but... Maintenance between a 60k mile cobra and 100k mile evo... Depends on previous owners. But evo will definitely cost more for maintenance.

+1... The terminators were the $***!! The old cobras were not much faster then a regular GT. I have a Lightning which will smoke a lot of cobras out there... Take it from me get the EVO. I don't know what part of TX you're from but if it ever snows by you.. You can forget about driving that cobra.

It cost you $2k to remove things off your car?

Have a few friends that are Ford nuts and even they tell me don't bother with those year Cobras when I found one on Craigslist. It doesn't have a supercharger, it's has independent rear suspension, and the mod motor is very expensive to work on. Modding-cost wise, you might as well go with an Evo as it's the same price.

Stay far, far away from an 01 Cobra. 03-04, totally different story.

Evo or something else.. One of the guys out here just traded his 800hp Cobra for a stock Z06. They're not impressive.
