Im not a noob to evo's but this guy selling his "03 evo 8" on CL, at this link here:

That looks like an evo 9 to me, of course he or one of the previous owners could have swapped the front bumper and smoked the headlights but it looks very very clean for a swap im just wondering if this guy actually has an evo 9 and he is oblivious to it?

Yea thats what I think. Unless the guy doesnt even know its a 9 lol but the vin number would be your best bet.

 

An 03 Evo IS the Evo VIII. The bumper has been swapped on this car. The Evo IX's were put into production March 2005.

 

Looks like a VIII to me. Just has a IX front bumper. Seats/Rims look to be off an VIII

 

Make sure it wasn't in a front end collision and the owner swapped out the 8 for the 9 bumper....

 

Could also ask for underhood pics. Check for te Mivec valve cover to see if it's a 9. But looks like an 8 to me, just a swapped front bumper and painted headlights.

rear bumper looks a bit different color than the rest of the car

almost guaranteed the car was in a front-end crash and had evo 9 stuff put on, that or he really just wanted that bumper and headlights

as others said, just ask for an engine bay and interior pictures

 

yea i noticed the 8 wheels and the 8 tails. you could ask him if the car has mivec but chances are the seller would know if the car was 3 years newer. my money says its an 8

 

i am with everyone that says evo 8 with 9 front end. it could have been in a collison or as some people around here do just did the conversion for the hell of it. I highly doubt a owner wouldnt know the year of his car.

 

Found this on his photobucket account. Not sure if it helps or not. Painted headlights for sure and the glare with the HIDs probably means they are a little hazy.

I'm not sure why someone's first mod would be a IX bumper. Either wasn't stock previously (highly likely) or front end damage. I'd probably do the same thing. My guess is the title is branded.

I feel the same. If you are looking for an Evo, Look elsewhere. This looks like the beginnings to a horror story.



Here is something else. Probably nothing but the rear bumper light is out on one side. *shrugs* and apparently he doesn't want you to know he took pictures at a Target.

 

isent the rear bumper a 9 also? I dont remember the little lights on the side lighting up, unless mine dosent do that.

 

thanks for the replies guys, i just found it interesting and also thanks for the collision warning. im still hunting for my first evo, looking for a clean one 40-70k miles hopefully less than 15k and as close to stock as possible.

 

If its a 03 then yes it's a Evo 8
