Really? Sti are junk IMO. Evo hands down will make lots more power RELIABLY. Their bulletproof. Subaru? Not at all

STI was also my first choice before doing a test drive of both cars. Now i drive an evo so that only mean one thing.

I also am struggling in the pursuit of a un-molested evo. Good luck bud, don't settle if possible.

OP, let me ask u this: how much seat time have u had in an STI, & what about it exactly makes it a formidable candidate to the IX for you? For any shortcomings folks here have mentioned, or u see yourself in it, for the aspects you love in the STI, would they be enough to outweigh the negatives & in the end would your level of satisfaction wih it leave your choice justified over buying a IX?

Ask yourself if you do go the STI route, when you see a IX drive by you on the road, will you be sitting there with that gut-wrenching feeling of knowing you made the wrong choice? Or not?

OP, also keep in mind you're on an Evo forum. People here will, for the most part, say no. Ask the same question about an Evo on a Subaru forum and you'll get the same answer, no. Ask a Corvette owner if they'd own either and you'll again get no as an answer. Do your own research and decide for yourself. There's so much BS said about STIs on this forum and Evos on NASIOC, it's hilarious.

My brother owns an STi that is modded to a similar level as my EVO. Anyone who has been in both our cars can't say which one is quicker, a couple have said the EVO is marginally but wouldn't put money on it (haven't actually raced him yet).

Everything has already been said so I'm not sure where I'm going with this, I don't even know why I posted actually.

Anyway, they're both good cars built with the same principle in mind. All that's different is the way they went about building them, just flip a coin.

....I think this is where I am.

Also, as someone else said, if I'm sitting in an STI and an Evo drives by, I'd totally be sick to my stomach. I've owned an VIII, IX, and X(regrettably)... Never a Subi, but I've known people with STI's who seem to love them. But, since I've only had Evo's, except for the last couple years due to family priorities, I don't think I could ever be truly satisfied with the STI. It's just so damn frustrating!

I wouldn't be looking to do a lot of mods. But, I guess I'd still be settling if I get the STI. I just wish I never had to unload my IX a few years back! Ah well.... The search continues.

Thanks for all the feedback! I'm surprised I didn't catch more flack asking about an STI in the Evo forum, lol!

Working on a STI is a ***** (turbo placement and everything is in the way) . Working on a Evo is alot better like a honda. Thats how I decided by looking at the motor and past experiences with friends, also the evo is faster

I would not consider an STi personally, I would wait for the right IX. Which is exactly what I did when I started looking for my Evo.

2007 STI with the following mods:

AMS Flash
AMS Boost controller
Turbo XS Downpipe
AMS adapter pipe
Vibrant Catback
AEM Cold Air Intake

Made 320 WHP and 357 ft/lbs of torque.

Direct quote from AMS.

Here's an STI, again tuned by AMS, with a bigger turbo.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/au...turbo-kit.html

STIs can make good power and no it won't bankrupt you. However, once you get into big power, above what the above car (with the bigger turbo) is making, it gets pricey and then the Evo becomes the obvious choice.

They must have some special sauce in their bolt ons.

My wife's car has an Invidia Downpipe, Magnaflow catback, Full race style equal length headers, Cobb Intake with CAI extension and she only made 287 and 300 ft lbs of tq.

Granted I think the shop that tuned her car didn't do the greatest job (she gets a WGA CEL thrown anytime she rolls on the throttle in 5th gear at about 800). The shop said that those numbers were average. I was expecting at least 300 on her car.

I would never put a bigger turbo on this car without a front mount and money set aside for a motor rebuild. The Ringland issues that plague the 08's and up (including the 11's and 12's) scare me way too much.

Mod for mod you will spend more for a Scooby to go as fast as the Evo. I've bought the performance parts on my wifes car and for my own so I'm speaking from experience. Just a front mount for her car is at best 1300 (perrin retails for 1600). I got my original ETS 4 inch for 650 shipped

Once we make this move to Raleigh I plan on replacing her top mount with a front mount and getting someone else ot tune her car to see if its just really low on power given the mods or if the tuner we went to just really sucks that bad.

Buschur has noticed similar gains with their Subaru. It isn't a one time deal but it does require good tuning. You're also comparing one dyno to another which doesn't always work. However, the results from AMS certainly disagree with the notion that STIs are always more expensive to mod than Evos.

No STi for me. Too soft all around to be exciting. And if I wanted a DD for comfort and economy, I'd buy a Camry.

And I 100% agree on the expensive to mod aspect. It basically has 2x what the 4G63 does.

+1 on waiting for the Evo. Was in the market for either, drove both, love my Evo and won't look back.

It sounds like you should wait for the Evo, you won't be happy in an STI if you really want an Evo.
