Cheaper Replacement Panel Clips and Removal Tip
Cheaper Replacement Panel Clips and Removal Tip
After removing my undertray for service and pulling the various damaged clips (and accounting for the missing ones) I wanted to replace the whole set as they have a limited life before removal gets difficult.
The clips from Mitsubishi get pretty expensive if you want to replace 30+ of them. The OE clips have a 20mm head, 8mm hole, 21mm protrusion, and 16mm screws.
A replacement for the OE part #MB547806 is:

I wanted to see if I could get a little tighter engagement by using a clip that spreads a little closer to the head, Nissan #83844-01A00 looked like it might fit so I ordered a couple packs. It starts the head engagement at ~5mm, compared to ~8mm for the OE clip. The screw is also 3mm shorter (13mm vs 16mm).

The risk is the spread point is still in the hole and will not work as a good clamp, but the benefit is it will lock in the 8mm hole and not spin when trying to remove.
I've attached a few pictures comparing it to the OE clip.
Also, I read a lot about what a pain the OE clips can be, but I have found the best tool for removal is a 1/8"x4 flat screwdriver like the one in the attached photo. You can extract even the loosest screws with little or no pressure applied (sometimes it helps to use a dentist pick to apply some pressure on the screw).
I will be cleaning up the tray and installing it with the new clips and reporting back how it works. Pretty basic stuff but it might help someone.
