Not when you cut the top off it and open up all the closed cells lol.

Just saying keep an eye on any water getting in the trunk and inspect under it regularly.

Why do this rather than just remove the spare and put the trunk liner and board back? props for giving it a go!

The board will collapse/break if you put something too heavy on it (at least that's what happened to mind). I just took some MDF and cut it to size; it's a little on the heavy side but it makes it so I can store stuff in the spare tire well, and still have support when I transport things with me.

You should try doing that. You will realize that anything heavier than a loaf of bread will make the board sag badly, and possibly break.

I have, and I do. These are great points though, I just don't put anything in the trunk.

have you noticed any sound difference from the inside as well? I'm sure there are some sound insulating properties to the foam there as well.

I don't carry a spare. I took the stock trunk lining and attached at ~6x6" square of 5/8" melamine (to its backside) right at the point where the lining meets the spare tire attachment bolt. The bolt is so long that it meets the melamine allowing for a relatively strong and rigid solution. Don't see a need for the foam.

I just got 3 blocks of foam from a craft store and secured them in place to hold up the thin cover for the trunk. So far its held a 12" bub/box that weighs about 55lbs.

I'm doing this right now, and I've added some plastic pipes to ensure holding up my race box o stuff. thinking about it i think some empty beer cans would help support more weight and also save on material. btw this 'great stuff' is not so great, not as good as the Hilti brand from home depot
i dont think it would be a good idea having this mod thru the mexican border
