Tranfercase whine... shop never changed fluid...
Last night I was driving around for a few hours from completing some purchases around town when on my way home my Tcase starts whining faintly during cruising speeds
I get an immediate awful gut-wrenching feeling because I know exactly what this means
I was really puzzled why the car was showing these symptoms, as I JUST had ALL the fluids changed with amsoil at 62k miles by a local "tuner" shop that also installed cams, a clutch, e85 conversion, and some other work. Im now at 67k. weird, and sh!tty.
So I quickly picked up some diaqueen and took my car into Jiffy lube for an immediate flush and sub sequentially found my current tcase's fluid was a pink milky color..... I said "wait, thats not amsoil... thats the color of the Redline I put in when I first got the car at 56k!!"
Im kind of freaking out. The shop had already done a number on my car - the TB spring was installed incorrectly after TB shaft replacement (I had to completely re-assemble it), my UICP repeatedly popped off on the way home because it wasn't tightened and I had no tools, and I found my LUGNUTS on both front wheels weren't torqued at ALL when they almost fell off on the freeway a day later.
The shop was understanding of their major mistakes and thus installed my EGT probe for free, but I would be very doubtful they would take any responsibility in case this ends up being a failure. What the F do I do?

If there is any damage I would make them pay for their mistakes if you have to take them to court take them to court with paperwork and a ASE certified technician to court with paperwork and implied damages for the repairs on their mistakes that they made on your car with the repairs. Also last but not least if you feel that these people are too incompetant to work on your car its simple stop taking yoru car to them.
If they made a msitake like that just imagine how much more damage will bedone if you still keep taking it to them. Just find someone whos is more experienced with your kind of car or better yet do it yourself. I made a diy on youtube about changing the transfercase oil. If your bold enough to pick the oil up change it yourself youll save time and headaches and save money.

Why did you even take your car back to that shop? Take it to another shop period.
Even they did not change fluid, it is hard for me to believe Redline fluid will screw your T-case in only 11k milies.

I would never bring my car to said shop again and tell everyone local to do the same.
You are in Ohio. If you have to have work performed at a shop Buschur/Switzer would likely be the answer no??

That sucks, I also find it hard to believe, that the Redline caused a failure. Unless they drained the fluid and put it back in. The Tcase is a ***** to fill up if you dont have the correct tools.
This is why I dont go to shops unless they have been doing Evos for a while or really know what they are doing and have a good reputation online. Always check out the shops before you let them touch your car. To many hack jobs out there.

Correct tools like a funnel with a hose on it? Tcase is easy to fill... the RR diff is difficult without a fluid pump.
HANG ON! Before you get bent out of shape, there could have been some residual Redline left in the tcase. Especially if you were using Shockproof. It's impossible to get all of it out. Now when you add in the new Amsoil, its going to mix with the residual redline and tune a color. So if they did all the other work properly, I'm sure they didn't ignore doing your transfer case fluid.

Im pretty sure Ive seen your vids on youtube, they are perfect. I just work a very busy schedule and I ****ing hate working in the cold, so I usually just have jiffy lube swap out my fluids because they're right across the street from my work.

All in all, I'm trying to assess the possibility of the noise being normal. It does NOT get louder with higher speeds, it actually goes away. Also, there were no metal shavings on the plug, although I'm not certain the plug is the OEM magnetic, as my oil plug surely isn't the oil pressure sensing one that came stock...
The more research I'm doing, the more I'm finding people with a similar sound that are just living with it. Its not loud, but I notice it. Im not sure other people would notice unless I point it out with on/off intervals. Deceleration it goes away. Acceleration it goes away. It just drones a bit at that harmonic sweet spot.
I don't launch my car, ever.
Sorry for your trouble OP
I see this mechanic shop close to my house for years, they always work on **** looking beat up cars. For the past week now i see an EVO sitting in the parking lot with the front end off.
Why do guys bring their EVO's to places like this?

I have too, but slightly more challenging... I think I had to snake the funnel in the wheel well.
