Did you accidentally install solid rear diff mounts?

You say you are new to Evo's. Did you just recently buy this car?

Does it change with throttle? More throttle = louder higher pitched?

Let me just say this...

1. You will likely get a myriad of replies telling you it's your transfer case. DON'T buy into the hype. There are dozens of things that cause whines including but not limited to.

A. AWD cars actually whine.
B. Wheel bearings.
C. Tires.
D. Differential oils.

etc. etc. etc.

Which Evo is it? How many miles? How long have you owned it? Have you verified if the necessary services have been done to it?

Thx everyone for the help n it's an 06 Evo mr jux own it for for a month now i know it's not normal because I jus start hearing it about 3 day ago (I stop driving since then) I pretty sure it's not the transfer case since the noise seen to be coming from the rear end. It has about 65k on the car, the car was fine when I bought it I let my brother borrow the car for a day then I start hearing since then ........ Big mistake -_- any way I will check wheels bearing and diff oil and get back with an update. An about the service I was told it has fully service before I bought the car.

Find out if your brother launched the car or did anything crazy with it.

Does the sound get louder with more throttle?
Does the sound only happen in certain gears?
Does the sound happen only with slight throttle then goes away with a little more throttle?
What fluids do you use right now?

It sound loudest around 35-40 mph seen to be louder if I let off the gas too. But when I come to a competle stop the noise go away. Asked my bro and he say he didn't launch it either so idk. I'm changing the fuild today ( was raining yesterday) with dealership tcase n rear diff oil see where that lead me. Other suggestion would help Thxs to all.

it can still be the Tcase, mine was the same way the noise was from the rear end but it was the pinon on the Tcase. the sound was traveling thru to make it sound like the rear end, Whine was really loud at about the mid point of the car.Only made the whine Under throttle never was i was off throttle. After i did the Ring and pinon [last week] all has been good and it really wasnt that hard to do my self, but then again ive built 9 bolt posi Borg warner rear ends that have handled 900HP.. tcase not leaking? thats another thing mine started to do aswell, and not from the seals from the Top Vent. Id check Rear Wheel bearings, Axles after that id disconnect drive shaft and check play in rear end and Tcase.

in neutral (not moving) it shouldn't whine because its not rotating. to my understanding it gets louder with rpm, thus it needs to be rotating. cant whine when stationary.

wheel bearing u can jack up the rear of the car (support it) and push/pull the wheel (top and bottom simultaneously), if theres a lot of play, the bearings are bad.

When you changed the fluid in your diff, how much junk was on the magnetic drain plug? What condition was the fluid in?

So many of you dudes just straight up under utilize google.

1. No. The t-case problem that people claim is common does not have a whining noise when the vehicle is stopped. It is directly related to wheel RPM.

2. Rear wheel bearing... https://www.google.com/search?q=How+...ient=firefox-a

3. You don't have an aftermarket fuel pump do you? You can try removing the seat cushion for the rear seat and listen to the fuel pump (right there) and see if thats the whining noise. It could be that whining, or on it's way out.

Plenty of Walbro pumps will be fine, and then once the temps warm up outside, they maybe get a bit louder as they run a bit hotter?
