Blown/shattered Tcase after less then 15miles
I'll put my 2 cents here.
He sold you a working transfer case. To his knowledge and to yours.
It worked when he sold it...it worked when you installed it.
I don't think it was malicious by anymeans. That bolt had not backed out and it was not rattling around the T/C... it failed when you had it.
So I don't think you're right to get all uppity with TC17 and say he's a scammer or a bad guy... I just think you're in a ****ty situation. You bought a used part that was working when you bought it. You used it some more and now it failed. The timing is horrible, but I wouldn't expect TC17 to give you all your money back. I would expect him to give you SOME money, but not all. You did after all fail the part.
Now I know everyone is going to say, "well what was he supposed to do...take the diff apart and inspect it?"
yes.
You bought a 900 dollar ACD transfer case... used. I say you man up and buy a new TRE transfer case for 3k+ and stop messing around with used crap.

Before I ship out anything of mine I take a look at it and post if anything was working or not working properly.....
Since the SELLER did say "it was sitting at a sponsors shop and had 15k miles and works perfect" <<<<<<how did he know that; if it wasnt running perfect in his car? MEANING AGAIN THE SELLER SHOULD HAVE INSPECTED IT CASE CLOSED!
And I can say well I have a perfectly running tcase in my car then take it out and loosen bolts and send it off to the buyer and have then put it in and blow up then say well im not refunding you all the money because it was working in my car......DUH
SMH (It worked when he sold it...it worked when you installed it.) <<<doesnt know what he is talking about.......

i 100% agree w/ R/Ternie
i kno matt personally, this is the "first" evo or car that he has built and i kno personally he is very hard on cars. bottom line he tried to cut corners and this is what happens..
i bought a used twin disk.. i spent the $ to ship it to the manufacturer to have it inspected before installing it.. probably woulda been a good idea for something like a transfer case
good luck getting your money back.. since you are not a qualified technician or shop, it would be impossible for you to prove he gave you bad goods

his car had 144k and His motor is in good hands still runs....
even if we pulled it apart to take a <<<<LOOK>>>>> you still cant SEE if bolts are torqued down...... lol So its not just taking a look its proper inspecting and making sure everything is torqued down properly..........Which the seller should have done before he waisted someones time...!!!!
^^^^^Y would you have to make sure its put together right when the seller stated it perfectly fine which defines no reason to take apart......even if we pulled it apart to take a <<<<LOOK>>>>> you still cant SEE if bolts are torqued down...... lol So its not just taking a look its proper inspecting and making sure everything is torqued down properly..........Which the seller should have done before he waisted someones time...!!!!

Please tell me how buying a 15k mile tcase which was said to be in GOOD CONDITION being cheap and cutting corners? Oem tcase's and have been proven to work down the track etc.... Gguess what though, this tcase blew apart before it even hit 15 miles of cruising! The car didn't even see more than 5pounds of vacuum because it wasn't tuned yet!

it's not the product that's cheap, it was your process. i would personally never spend that kind of money on such a critical component, sight unseen, from a "guy" over the Internet. too many risks, case in point.

Morale of the story is... When you by something whether it be a turbo or complete car, you must torque down every bolt and nut to be sure it is in good working condition even though the seller says it is.
Lmao Idk what ur point was rob.
And to matt.. good luck. Guess I made the right choice not letting u build my car.
BTW I have purchased used parts, with stuff that I could afford to take chances with. I guess u and rob can stick to your Paypal pieced together cars, but no reason to be salty when u don't get lucky

I think we need a group hug! It's unfortunate lgshow, but just a Risk u take when buying anything used..... Period ....whether said to be good or not. If the Seller knew there was an issue with it and didn't tell u then that's shady, but again a chance u take.
Get over Ur car being blown up and get off his ***** Ur car was a ticking time bomb my car will be too so i won't be mad if it blows up when i drive it because i know Im pushing the limits plus he is and was a better driver than you so stop crying and man up to Ur build......
